Chapter 42

"You can't!" I yell, my eyes brightening another shade.

"Yes we can!" Dad yells back.

"You don't even know how to take care of a Vampire!" I try.

"We'll learn! Honestly how hard is it?" He shouts.

"And what about Blaise, huh? I'm not leaving without him!" I cuddle him to my chest protectively. No one can separate us.

"You will if we tell you to!" I stagger back at his words. He won't. He's cruel, but not that cruel.

If she goes, I go. I am not leaving her side! Blaise hisses at Dad who stands unflinchingly. I'd have been impressed if the situation weren't so dire.

"If you follow us, I will throw you into a shelter! Understand?"

That's only if you could catch me and if Lizzy actually goes with you.

"She will come with us whether she wants to or not! She is our daughter and obeys what she is told!" Mom butts in.

Even if both of you pull on her, she won't budge! She's too strong! I'd like to see you try. I scan Blaise's mind and almost revolt. His thoughts are dark and red in his haze to protect me.

Calm down. Fighting won't help anything. I try to soothe my kittens temper and the red goes down to an orange.

You're right. He sighs.

"Please don't take Lizzy away!" Emilee pleads, her eyes filling with tears. "She's the only friend I have here!" Wow. I'd have thought that she'd have tons of friends already with that superstar hair and gentle eyes.

Blaise, can you go get Isaac? He might be able to talk some sense into Mom and Dad. I walk towards the window and set him down. He nods, his blue eyes solemn.

I will be back as soon as possible. Please don't do anything stupid while I'm gone. He licks my hand once before sprinting off.

I look back and Mom and Dad and everything goes black like it did while I was in the courtyard that day. The yelling ceases until everyone looks at me, surprise weaving around them.

Just as quickly as it began, it ends and everything goes back to normal. I take a deep breath at the sudden change, my mind whirling.

"Lizzy? Are you alright?" Emilee's voice wavers.

"Yeah. I don't know why my eyes keep doing that." I shake my head.

"Maybe they'll stop once we get you away from this blasted school!" Mom huffs.

"It's probably just a Vampire thing." I snap back.

"What's going on?" Isaac barges through the door and almost into Dad.

"My amazing and supportive parents are taking me out of here." I put a totally fake smile on my face.

"What? You can't do that!" Isaac rounds on my Dad.

"Watch me!" He yells back.

"She's almost eighteen! She'll just come back in two months!"

"Well that's two months that we'll have with her!" Mom shrieks.

"Do you honestly think that she'll even talk to you? She'll hate you even more than she already does!" Isaac's face is red with anger and he spits the words out like poison.

"If you take me, I'll kill you." I whisper and everyone quiets. Mom's eyes widen in shock and Dads mouth goes in a thin line. "I won't go anywhere with you."
