It felt awkward between me and Bruce. I had no idea that the kid was his! Like, I know he adopted, but come on! The boy could honestly be his! They had the same black hair and the near identical blue eyes! Honestly, I call myself a reporter and I can't even spot of a possible Wayne!
I was sort of poking at my ice-cream while I berated myself before I finally focused on the two billionaires in front of me. Dick was biting into his cold treat, as was Bruce for that matter. Neither one of them looked bothered by the cold of it, they looked almost normal eating their ice-cream inside the shop. It was strange, but at the same time it was almost relaxing.
"Is the ice-cream not good?" The little boy looked up from his cone, tilting his head cutely. His eyes were on my mostly untouched bowl of ice cream, concern floating off his voice.
I blushed a little as Bruce looked up as well. He raised an eyebrow, looking at me with some sort of expression. It felt like he was analyzing me in a way. It felt tense and it made me want to shrink and hide. As Superman, I can stand the Batglare, but as Clark Kent... Even this normal gaze was intimidating! Then again, it was easier to pretend that I could stand the Batglare considering I'm bullet proof and Batman doesn't usually go for the kryptonite... Usually.
"N-No! It's fine!" I managed out, taking a big bite of the ice-cream.
I gave a small smile to the child, who held those same intense eyes. After seeing me take a bite of it, the two quickly went back to their own ice-cream. I gulped the frozen treat down before taking a more reasonable bite. It was really good ice-cream.
"This is good ice-cream..." I muttered, smiling to the pair.
Dick was the one to look up to me and smiled brightly, which made me chuckle a little. He had ice-cream all around his mouth.
"Yeah! This place is the best! I go here with Alfred sometimes!" His smile grew some, smearing the ice-cream more over his face.
I covered my mouth some as I set my ice-cream down. He tilted his head, looking confused.
"Ice-cream, all over." I laughed a little, handing him the napkins. His face went a little red as he tried to scrub the treat off his face. Of course, he missed on big area.
I was about to reach over and help him, but Bruce was already d
oing that, laughing some as well. It wasn't his charming laugh, but a true genuine one that made my chest feel oddly warm and airy.
"You're always missing one spot." He teased, patting the boy on the head after.
Out of retaliation, the boy stuck his tongue out at him! It was much more relaxed now, though that could just be because they forgot a simpleton like me was here.
Suddenly, Bruce's blue eyes were on me, once again they were calculating and firm. Yet, it changed when he smiled at me. It wasn't like the one from the office. It was softer, smaller and more genuine. I don't know why, but it made me blush far more than his flirty smile, my heart actually skipped a beat!
"So, how long are you and Ms. Lane going to be in Gotham, Mr. Kent? Gotham can get... A bit rough for nice people like you."
Damn, he was speaking in a slow and deep way that was just... Damn, is this how he gets all those rumors of being a playboy? Wait, I'm a guy! I shouldn't be affected by this!
"A-At least a month!" I winced at myself as I heard how pitchy my voice sounded. Why am I acting like a schoolgirl? Does he have this effect on everyone?
The two Waynes stared at me for a moment before Dick laughed at me. He stopped once Bruce gave him a raised eyebrow. The boy gave a small pout, to which Bruce's eyebrow raised higher, into a perfect arch. At this, the boy laughed some more as he went back to his cone. The billionaire shook his head before looking to me with an amused smile.
That smile... Once again, my heart skipped a beat. That smile seemed to be telling me to relax, that everything was fine. That somehow, I was part of their little family. I don't know why, but that... That brought a smile to my face as well.
