After I got some late-night rest, along with getting some quick help from the Watchtower doctors, I felt like usual. Which meant that the day was spent gathering as much information as possible about Gotham's Dark Knight and its most eligible bachelor.
There wasn't much that could properly get done other than the fact that as much as Bruce was a party animal and a playboy, he was responsible and was brilliant to some degree. Many of his sponsors were impressed how the man delivered on his promises, both good and bad. They were also impressed by how eager people were to work for him. Talking with employees, we discovered that even the lowest entry was paid a living wage and bonuses and promotions were actual good deals!
"Seems like Bruce Wayne is a little bit of a Saint, don't ya think?" Lois hummed, sipping her sweet coffee.
I nodded as I looked over our notes and comments. He's polite, but not flirtatious with his female staff members and he doesn't tolerate any harassment or sabotaging behavior. He rewards genuinely hard workers and punishes, if not fires, those who aren't doing their part. He's understanding about setbacks and accidents and makes everyone feel at ease, even if they did admit that his wealth and handsome features make it difficult for them to completely relax.
"He really does... Maybe we can run with this? Bruce secretly has a heart of gold, and his employees respect him?"
Lois hummed, pulling out her phone and began typing on it.
"Texting Mr. White." She grumbled. "But we should go back to the police and try to talk with them-"
"About Batman, I know. We should probably talk with some of the saner criminals that he's put away. Maybe some henchmen too?"
She nodded her head and after leaving a quick tip in the glass jar, we left to continue on our long day of interviewing people and setting up times to interview the criminals who had met Batman face to face.
"Oh! We could probably ask Superman about him, his words would hold more weight, wouldn't they?" She gave me an amused smirk, winking one of her eyes.
I chuckled and nodded slowly.
"Don't really think there's much for him to tell though."
Her smirk turned into a pout, focusing back on driving to our little hotel. Just then, my phone buzzed. I frowned a little as not many people would try and text me. Ma and Pa don't really have the knowledge to text and Lois was right next to me, Mr. White would've just called too... Pulling my phone out, I noticed it was a text from Bruce. Yes, I saved his number from when his son had called me.
Can't pick up Dick and can't reach my new chauffer or Dick's bbsiter. Can you?
I gulped as I reread the message a few times before sending a quick yes.
"Hey, I'm going to pick up Bruce's kid. Why don't you put together what we have while I do that?"
She gave me a raise eyebrow before smirking and focusing on the road.
"And here I thought you still liked me." She teased, a grin forming on her lips. I was... a bit confused to say the least. She must've noticed as she subtly shook her head. "It's fine, Kansas boy. I'm just glad that you found someone you like after... After everything."
"Okay..." I was still very confused on what she meant, and why she was mentioning that moment... So, I decided to brush it off. It didn't seem relative or important at the moment.
It took us a few minutes before she was settled in at the small table near the window and I had explain/written down the meanings behind some of the symbols I had made as shorthand. After that, I was able to take the car and drive to Gotham Academy. It was far larger and grander than I had thought. Its pictures did it no justice.
