Getting back into the more peaceful style of life that was Metropolis was a bit difficult. I kind of got used to Gotham's near eternal night and nearly being mugged a few times. However, I did like that I didn't have to make sure that the door was locked properly and all that.

"Kent! You're late!" Mr. White shouted the moment he saw me.

I tensed a little before giving the man a soft smile. "Sir, didn't me and Lois give you weeks' worth of material to use? I think being a few minutes late because of traffic can suffice."

Mr. White froze, blinking at me as if I had grown a second head. He then scoffed and waddled to his office, calling out to another one of our co-workers to follow him. I shook my head at him and sat at my desk. I still had work to do.

As I was working, I heard a familiar clicking of Lois's footsteps. I felt his grab the back of my chair, leaning forward to look at what I was doing. I clenched my jaw, typing a little faster in hopes that she'd get the hint that I was trying to work alone. This wasn't even related to our trip, just something that needed a little look through and editing.

"Wow, you okay? I heard you snapping at Mr. White. As much as he deserved it, you don't usually do that... Are you missing Bruce and the kid?"

My fingers froze at her words before I looked to her. I did feel off now that she mentioned it.

"Maybe? I just... He only hounds me. I've seen several other people come here nearly half an hour late, and yet he doesn't yell at them." My tone grew more hissed and harsher at the end, anger beginning to boil in my chest.

Lois gave me a deep frowned look.

"And haven't you noticed that those same colleague's stay late? Or the fact that most of their stories are run after you?"

I sighed heavily, feeling the anger deepen inside me. She wasn't understanding me. Even if he was trying to push me and focus on me because he saw potential, he didn't do that to Lois or other more successful journalists!

"What about you? Or Johnny?" I grumbled.

She sighed, giving me a disapproving look. It was like she was thinking that I wasn't understanding her!

"Because we get here on time and stay the full time, Kanas Boy." She went to say something else, but there was a shake of the building. She shook her head and gave a wave of her hand. "Go, I'll cover."

I nodded, quickly getting up and sneaking out before Mr. White could see me. It wasn't hard for me to find what was going on. Turned out there were some new aliens trying to take over the Earth.

I felt my lips twitch into a scowl. Why were they coming here? Especially since Earth shouldn't have what they wanted; humans are still too far behind to use all of Earth's resources fully. Still, I should see why they were there.

"Excuse me, what is your purpose here?" I called as I floated down.

The rock-based aliens narrowed their eyes on me before they began to chatter to each other. The largest one with a diamond poking out their chest. They moved forward, their glowing eyes narrowed.

"We seek to use Earth as shelter." Their voice was gravelly.

I nodded and offered a kind smile.

"We're willing to help and share-"

"No." The alien marched forward, them opening their jaws to expose jagged and sharp teeth. "We will take all."

My smile fell as my feet touched the floor. Why did all the other aliens want to destroy Earth? That just sounds so stupid and annoying.
