Short Noticed

The next week had been a tough one for both Clark and Bruce.

For Clark, it was because of Lois's instance on them trying to get information on the Cape Crusader. They had talked with many people the Crusader had helped and saved, as well as the police. Many of the people were thankful for his help, but there was little they could really say about him that wasn't already known. The police did offer the fact that he had been seen having a child with him, helping him stop crime, but that was about it.

That little snippet of information had gotten the journalist's gears moving. Her spouting ideas that she had forced Clark to write down so she wouldn't forget. He did formulate these ideas as questions, just in case they get to spot the Dark Knight. Of course, that seemed least likely considering he knew how to slip away without anyone noticing.

For Bruce, he learned quickly that if he wanted to get his workout done, he would have to wake up earlier than usual. The reason behind this was to make sure to have breakfast done before Dick was out of the shower basically. He wanted them both to have a good breakfast before heading out the door. He didn't mind skipping the morning workout, but that wasn't the only problem. The other problem was dealing with his day work.

At the day job, he had to deal with some employees embezzling, not getting projects finished on time, draw backs from sponsors, etc. Honestly, he wished he had gun pointed at his face, or was in one of Joker's elaborate traps! Those were at least easier to deal with!

These problems had left him at the office for most of the night, twice, which annoyed him. He did make sure that Dick had somewhere else to go for the night, but it still annoyed him. It also meant he had to play the charming billionaire playboy to keep plenty of the investors and sponsors with him. He had to also see what was going wrong with the projects, even having to get a little hands-on, to the surprise of his staff. For the embezzlers, they were fired and sued, the trial date pending.

Then, on a Sunday night, Bruce got a last-minute meeting in another city the next day. He growled lowly at that. As annoying and irritating as that was, he would've just left it at that and told Dick at dinner, seeing as Dick would be in school for most of the day and with friends. Yet, he had Monday off, and he didn't want the child alone for those long hours. That meant he had to find a last-minute babysitter.

Dick had saw the panic and annoyance his adoptive father was going through on finding him a babysitter, a good one at that. So, being the sly Robin he was, he found Clark's phone number and dialed him up. The reporter answered after a few rings.

"Hello?" He hummed. He didn't recognize the number and was a few moments away from ending the call. He didn't want to be scammed after all.

"Hi, is this Clark?" Dick giggled some, hearing quick shuffling of fabrics. It was late at night, the man must've been sleeping, or having just laid down.

"Dick? Are you okay? Is Bruce okay?" The older man's words were a little rushed.

"Oh! We're fine! But I have the day off tomorrow and Dad has a last-minute meeting, can you watch me?" There was a noise of confusion. "Usually Alfred would watch me when this happens, but seeing as he's on vacation, Dad doesn't really have anyone who could watch me on such short notice. And with you, I won't be too much of a bother!"

There was a soft sigh and then a chuckle. "You're not a bother either way... Well, me and Lois are going to your father's company tomorrow for some employee interviews, do you think your father would be okay with that?"

Just as Dick was about to answer, Bruce had found him. Giving a bright smile, the Robin handed the phone over to his adoptive father. Raising an eyebrow at the little trickster, he raised the phone to his ear.

"Hello, Bruce Wayne speaking." He glanced at the screen, frowning as he didn't recognize the number.

There was a quiet intake of breath before a stuttering voice called out, one that the Detective quickly recognized. "H-Hey, Bruce..."

"Oh! Clark, hey... Why'd Dick call you?" Bruce leaned back some as he watched his child lounge on the sofa in the small den, reading a book. The pure look of pretending to be busy so he could eavesdrop. The Dark Knight was going to have to teach the boy how to eavesdrop better if the boy really wanted to.

"He... He wanted me to bring him to work... While you um... While you're busy." There was a short minute of awkward silence before Bruce spoke up.

"You don't have to do that... I'm sure I can find someone who'd watch him..." Not likely, all the usual candidates were out, and the billionaire didn't want to leave his son with a stranger. Or someone hoping to win his favor.

"It's fine, Bruce." There was a lighter tone to Clark's voice now. "Besides, we'd be at your company building, so there isn't too much of a chance for him to get hurt."

The grimmer man chuckled, remembering the time Dick had decided to do something stupid that nearly got him injured. Actually, there were a lot of times like those. He may have taken the boy from the circus but there was no way of taking the circus out of the boy.

"Trust me when I say, don't let him out of your sight. He'll cause hell if you do." There was a joking tone to his voice before he hung up.

He sighed a little, a bit unnerved that the person watching his son was also going to be the person he really didn't want to spill his secret identity to. However, at least someone was willing to watch his boy that wasn't going to try and use him as leverage. He then glanced at said child, an unashamed grin on his face.

"You're lucky." The billionaire pointed the phone at him, shaking his head in amusement.

Dick happily chirped a 'I know' before running off to genuinely do something. That kid was going to get him in so much trouble, Bruce was sure of it. He just wished he knew what kind of trouble.
