Clark: Strange Thoughts

I hadn't expected Ivy to take so much of my time. I was honestly upset with myself for not ending it sooner. It wasn't like she had Joker Gas, so there wasn't a real reason for me to hold so far back!

Before I could completely make it back to Wayne's building, a beeper went off. It was my league com. Pressing on it, I was quickly met by Batman's voice.

"Meet me at the Watch Tower at twenty-two hundred." The com went dead after that.

I winced. He sounded angry. I guess I can't blame him, he had been trying to get me to think ahead more, especially when it comes to Lex. The guy just gets in my head though! He was a certified genius! Always figuring a way to avoid the law in some form.

'I should just break him in two and be done with him.'

Quickly, I shook those thoughts from my head. That wasn't a thought someone as powerful as me should be thinking. Lex was a brilliant man, and he could do so much good if he just put his efforts into it.

I sighed, hurrying back to where Lois and Dick were hiding. I had brought along with me some officers seeing as that's what I originally said I would do. The boy had given me a strange look though, like he knew I was lying. It felt like I was being examined by Batman. He of course let me go.

"Mr. Clark!" A small body ran into me, making me grab them.

"Dick, are you okay?" I gently ran a hand through the boy's hair, him giving me a wobbly lip look.

"Y-Yeah... Just... Shaken." He muttered.

I nodded at that, still rubbing his head. It made sense he would be shaken; Ivy was a wild card when she wanted to be. Though I do wonder what type of smoke I had breathed in... I'm sure I would be fine, Kryptonians are different from normal humans after all.

Suddenly my phone went off, to which I hurriedly grabbed and answered.

"Hello, Cl-"

"Are you and Dick okay?" The rushed voice of Bruce came into my ear.

I felt my body relax at hearing his voice, though I had also winced. His rushed voice sounded similar to what Batman's sounded like when he's a little frantic. A frantic Batman is not a fun Batman...

"Yeah, we're fine. The building's fine too. Might head to the hotel though... I don't think anyone would want to-"

"Yeah, that makes sense."

'He shouldn't interrupt me like that. I should punish him.' I quickly blinked those odd thoughts away and focused on what Bruce was saying.

"I'll be by shortly... I'll bring you and Lois with me and Dick, you can have dinner with us."

Lois, as if she just knew her name was called, appeared right by me. Her slender hand snatched the phone away, her walking off with a skip in her step.

'She shouldn't snatch other people's things, especially when I was on a call with Brucie. Brucie? When did I get attached to Bruce like that?' I frowned, growing very confused now. Maybe meeting up with Batman wouldn't be a bad idea... Just as a precaution.

"Mr. Clark?"

I looked down at Bruce's kid, he was giving a worried look. He looked so much like his father. Thoughts floated in my head, but I ignored them. The kid needed my full attention.

"Yeah?" I knelt in front of him.

"Is Dad coming back?"

I smiled and nodded.

"He'll be back soon, and he said that me and Lois would have dinner with you."

Dick tilted his head before giving me a bright smile. He suddenly made a jumpy motion, his arms outstretched. I chuckled at him, standing straight and picked him up. He smiled to me, making me smile back. It seemed he had gone back to being a happy little kid. I liked that.

After a few minutes, Lois handed me my phone and we all took the stairs down to the lobby seeing as the elevators were offline. It was a safety measure that was put into place after a number of villain related earthquakes had caused some malfunctions with them. It was something that the employees both praised and complained about. It made sense as even I felt a little tired by the time I reached the ground floor.

On the ground floor Bruce and a few others were waiting there. I was a little surprised by how fast he was able to get back here.

'He reminds me a lot like Batman. He's so sneaky and fast. I want to know who Batman is. I should just remove his mask and force him to tell me who he is. No! No, that's not the right thought, I should let him have his secrets. I just need to show him that he can trust me.'

"Hey, are you okay, Clark?" A deep voice called to me, making me focus on the concerned face of the very man that held my thoughts.

I gave him and Dick a soft smile.

"Just... Lost in thought..."

Bruce returned my smile and nodded.

"Do you think you and Lois would-"

"Yes, we'll be fine and able to join you for dinner. A peaceful dinner would do us good." Lois interrupted, and I couldn't help giving her a side-eye.

She was always pushing for something. I doubt this dinner was only going to be for us to recover or acting as a friends. I pulled my attention away from her and back to the Waynes. The two were giving me an odd look, Bruce the most.

I couldn't continue looking at him. I don't know why I did that. She has always been like that, plus a dinner did sound very good.

"Tonight, come by my mansion at six. Or I can send a driver to pick you up?"

I smiled to him and shook my head.

"Don't worry about us. We'll come by around six."

As I talked, I handed him Dick, who quickly clung to his dad. After a few more words, I and Lois left so we could relax. I guess everything was up and running again as when I used my eyes to follow Bruce, he was using the elevator with some others. Right, they were more used to crazy things happening than people at Metropolis.

"Clark?" Lois was giving me a raised eyebrow look and I just smiled to her.

"Sorry, I guess she tried to use some sort of knock out gas. It's making my head a bit fuzzy."

That made her smile and offer her hand. I gave her the keys to the car we were renting at the current moment. I should try and take it easy for a few days, I'm pretty sure that whatever Ivy's smoke was wasn't going to affect someone like me. I'm the Man of Steel after all.
