"Camilo, are you ok? What happened there?" I asked, worried about him as he seemed so scared. "I don't-. I don't know. Everything just got so confusing. Then everything came crumbling down. God, I don't know what's going on today" he said, falling down onto the floor and bringing his hands up to his head. "Hey hey it's ok. You're going to be ok, just breathe. What happened in there, and you can take as long as you want to tell me" I told him in a soft, comforting voice, sitting down next to him and hugging him gently. "Mirabel, went to tío Bruno's tower, found his last vision, and found out that she is the reason that the house is cracking" he said, taking breaths between saying a small part of a sentence. "What? That's not possible, she would never want to hurt anyone, why would she be the cause of this?" I asked, being gentle with my tone so I wouldn't make him worry more than he was already. "I don't know. I agree with you, she would never want to hurt the encanto, so I just don't know" he said, burrowing his head into my shoulder, holding onto me tightly.
The two of us sat there for a while, pondering about what Bruno's vision meant, but before long we decided it would be best if Camilo went back. He took a moment to collect himself, not wanting his family to see him at this low of a point. Before he went back in he gave me a soft kiss on the cheek, making me blush, then went back in to do whatever he could to help his family.
I walked back down to my house, walking past my parents by saying I was tired and going straight to my bedroom. I laid on my bed, staring at the ceiling and just thinking about what could possibly go wrong. I laid there for hours, not caring about what else was going on, and just being in my own world. I was only caught out of a daze when I heard the sound of Isabela growing plants. It was odd, especially since the house she loved was cracking and crumbling right under her very nose.
I walked over to my window, peering out of it, but quickly moving back in out of shock. There were plants, sure, but they were different. They weren't the perfect flowers Isabela normally grew. They were spiky, they were different, they weren't perfect. I didn't know what to think, but something inside me told me it was a good sign. Isa would never do anything like this out of hatred, she cared too much about her reputation to do that, so the only thing I could think of was that she escaped the prison of being the perfect golden child of the family and just became herself. Being truly happy in her body. Surely this would mean good things, surely this would mean things would start turning around.
I reached over to where the vase was stood on my windowsill. The darkening pinks of the sky made the yellow stand out while also mixing with the colours beautifully. I plucked it out of the vase while being careful not to knock it over and walked back onto my bed. I laid there for a while, again not caring about anything else, but this time I was reminiscing.
The flower I held in my hand held so many memories in its petals. Well, not this flower specifically, but it's species, and the bush it came from grew all of the flowers which gave me and Camilo the memories that we had together for the past two months. The fun times, the calm times, the chaotic times, I was always given a primrose. It was one of the things that made me love him, showing his sweet and caring side to me while also showing how he likes to have fun. Then there were the times where he would rant to me about how he felt, that he felt like his gift wasn't good enough for his family's expectations, that he needed to work harder to be as good as the rest of his family. He would also say about how he felt like he was losing his identity, always focusing on turning into other people instead of how he looked, focused on replicating the details in other peoples faces than remembering the ones on his own. It made him worry that one day he would change into someone, and then never change back. I would always assure him that it would never happen, and that no matter what I'd still be here for him.
I was shaken out of my trance by the feeling of the ground beneath me shaking. Everything in my room started to shift around, clothes being scattered on the floor and furniture being displaced. The glass vase on the windowsill fell to the ground and shattered, water spilling everywhere and making the floor wet. Smoke and debris began to flow in through the open window, making me cough as I inhaled it. I was about to run to my parents, hoping that they would tell me what was going on, but I stopped myself. Everything felt too similar, too familiar to be the first time that this had happened. Then it hit me. This was my dream. It was deja vu. I knew where I had to go, I knew what was the cause of this. I ran straight out of the house, making my way up the cracked street and straight to La Casa Madrigal.
When I got there, it was obvious that this was where the worst of the damage was being held. The house was crumbling, ceiling tiles falling and furniture crashing down all of the time. I noticed the front door opening, followed by almost every member of the family being thrown outside. From a distance I noticed something else being thrown out through the side of the house, but I was in too much of a panic to care. I ran towards Camilo, first checking to make sure that he wasn't hurt, then asking what was going on. "Mirabel leave it" I heard Señora Julietta yell, and I looked up to see where everyone was looking. Mirabel stood on the ceiling tiles, reaching over to where the candle always stood.
I now knew what was probably going on. The house was breaking. So was the town. Mirabel was trying to save the candle, as were some of the others probably. And now that almost everything was destroyed they didn't care about the candle, but about Mirabel instead. When we noticed that she got the candle, we saw how the house began to push her down towards the door, but she was followed instantly by the tower crashing down towards her. Everyone around me was screaming, praying that she was okay, but then the tower hit the floor with a loud crash, and everyone fell silent.
