Lindsay opened her door and was ready to unload on whoever disturbed her without calling first, everyone knew this was an unbreakable rule of Lindsay's. Lindsay didn't like surprise visits, she had enough unannounced visitors with her astral friends that seek her out. When she opened the door she was staring into the most amazing deep blue eyes. "Holy language young lady", Father Andrew Meers stared at Lindsay with humour and a small smile formed on his mouth. "Is than anyway to greet someone who comes bearing coffee and danishes, and by the looks of you, you need it." Andrew said in a playful tone. Father Andrew Meers was Lindsay's best friend, Father Andy to the kids and Father 'what a waste' to Lindsay headed to the kitchen to get a plate for the danishes, as she watched him make himself at home she reflected on their first meeting at Brewster Bay high school.

Lindsay had sat at her usual table in the cafeteria which was in the back corner with some of the other students labeled as "misfits". Lindsay didn't know anything about misfits just that she could be herself around them and they accepted that sometimes she was seen talking to someone who wasn't there, little do they know, thought Lindsay. She spotted the guy with the shaggy black hair and deep blue eyes who looked like he dresses without thinking that morning, but it worked, she liked his faded brown pants with a dark green top and jean jacket hoodie. As he walked past the jock table one of the called out "Hey freak, sit at the back with the other freaks, we call them the freak show and that's where you belong." Lindsay had seen enough never one to shy away she stood up from her table and shouted "Hey hoodie, keep away from that table they all have a chronic STD call douchieitis ".

Andrew slowly looked over to where the outburst came from and smiled when Lindsay motioned for him to come sit with them, Lindsay watched him slowly walk over and she thought she could see some muscles under the hoodie, hmm, interesting she thought. Once he sat down she introduced herself and the others at the table joined in, "so hoodie, what brings you to the fabulous Brewster Bay high school" inquired Lindsay in a playful tone. Andrew explained that his Mom was a nurse who worked night shift and got transferred after the hospital she worked at made cutbacks, it was either move here or his Mom would have no job. After that day Lindsay and Andrew were inseparable.

Andrew spent most evenings at Lindsay's house having supper with her and her parents who always seem to enjoys his company more than their own daughters, every morning they met at the front door of the school and walked in together, everyday they sat together at lunch and every evening he was at her place for dinner and "homework" which was mostly looking through the yearbook and goofing on all the jock douchebags and their dismal futures as has been high school football who get big beer guts and repeat the same stories to the same people who were there but act like its their first time they've heard it.

Lindsay was lost in these thoughts when Andrew thumped the plate down on the table "yo, earth to Lindsay, you with me or is Bubbie demanding your attention?" Andrew knew all about Bubbie and Lindsay's special connection to the lost souls who never made it to the "sweet spot" as Father Andrew liked to call heaven. It didn't bother him that his best friend hears ghost or astral projections as she likes to call them, he's just glad it doesn't happen to him. Lindsay smiled at him and said "I was just thinking about the day we met, who knew that 17 years later you would still be my best friend, I'm really glad you are, I love you Andrew and I will always value your friendship no matter what happens." Andrew gave her a bewildered look "Linds, are you ok?" he slowly asked. Lindsay blinked her eyes quickly then answered "of course I am, I hope your brought at least one lemon danish, I need a lemon danish with my coffee I will settle for nothing less." mimicking a haughty British voice. Lindsay took a bite of her danish and turned to Andrew with her mouth half full and said "So Father Andy, what do today?"

Father Andrew talked about how he was working on his sermon and the focus of his Sunday afternoon bible study class when Lindsay started coughing on her bite of danish. Andrew knew by that cough that Bubbie was adding his two cents to the conversation, with an exasperated sigh Andrew asked "Ok, what's Casper saying now". Bubbie started pulsing and shimmering quickly, did father fuckhead just call him Casper again he fumed, he hated being called Casper, he remembered Casper from a book he read in the one room school house he seldom attended. Lindsay looked at Andrew and said "Bubbie was just talking about pulling a joke on you while your giving your sermon that's all". Andrew knew this wasn't the truth but decided to let it go, this was nothing new for him.

Bubbie floated up to Lindsay and asked her why she didn't tell him what he really said which was to hide a prostitute under his pulpit and let her tickle his ivory, let's see father fuckhead give a sermon while he's getting his balls licked, the thought of that made Bubbie shimmer rapidly with a light glow. Lindsay turned to Bubbie and lightly scolded him "Bubbie, why do you gotta be so nasty, Father Andrew has serious business peddling Jesus to those who wish to accept him" she added this last part in an exaggerated preacher voice. "Oh haha" said Father Andrew. "All kidding aside Andrew I think your sermon is good, your really good with the people and your a good person, certainly one of my favourites" she added with a genuine smile.

Lindsay told Andrew about the call from Sara and that they were going to meet for an early supper at the Restaurant, she invited Andrew to come along knowing Sara wouldn't mind, Andrew never discussed anything that was talked about or revealed, his faith was good like that. Andrew explained that he had a meeting with a couple from his congregation whose twin daughters went missing and they were devasted and lost, he wanted to be there to offer solace and prayers. Lindsay's mouth opened with shock, "Oh that's awful, that poor family, please Andrew let me know if there is anything I can do" she said in a sadden tone, "anything" she said again slowly and in a low tone.

At half past four Lindsay headed out the door, Andrew had left about a half hour earlier, no time for my pet project now she grumbled as got into her 94 Ford Tempo, it was a faded dark green and needed obvious repair work but it was hers, bought and paid for and she loved it. As she drove to the Restaurant she looked at all the cars and houses and business she had seen everyday of her life as far as she can remember, life in a small town she remarked out loud to no one. The Restaurant was a diner style bistro specializing in home sandwiches, fresh baked bread, amazing pancakes and the most sinful desserts, the owners were a young couple who enjoyed the feel of an old time diner but with a flair of the modern era. Sara was at their usual table when Lindsay walked in, back left corner booth, perfect view of anyone that walks in, Lindsay walked over to the booth and slid along the bench up to Sara "Come here often little lady" asked Lindsay in a terrible French accent. Sara laughed and playfully answered "in fact I do, I meet the most interesting fake french people here". They both laughed.

After they ordered and eaten half their lunch Sara hit Lindsay with the news " I have a case I'm really stumped here Linds, twin girls went missing just over 24 hours ago and there has been no contact or demands from the kidnapper which leads me to believe he's not interested in money, at least not from a ransom". Lindsay's stomach dropped and she felt her lunch rise up, this can't be a coincidence as she though of Andrew's plan for the evening. "Holy shit Sara, Andrew was at my place earlier and he mentioned that he was going to sit with a couple whose children went missing the other night" Lindsay said. Sara nodded her head and explained that they're members of his congregation, they lived in the new subdivision near the outskirts of town, recently relocated here, stay at home mother and father was an accountant for the Brewster Bay cannery. The Brewster Bay Cannery was opened in 1940 and employed eighty percent of the town, including her father, or at least used to she thought with a pang in her chest.

Sara told her that although she has all the facts there has to be something she's missing. Lindsay goes quiet and stares into the empty space behind Sara, after a moment she turns her eyes to Sara. Bubbie says he's going to take a float around tonight and see if any of his fellow astral friends have seen or heard anything, the dead always knew thing the living didn't.
