As Andrew diced up the onion for the omelet he was making for him and Sara he reflected on the conversation with the girls parents the other night, he told Lindsay what he was allowed to such as, the girls knowing about stranger danger and how the mother was only gone for a moment.
What he didn't tell her was that just before the girls had gone missing their mother had just scolded them for having their good dolls outside and had stormed off into the house with their dolls leaving the two girls crying and pouting in the yard.
Andrew held the mothers hands as she tearfully told him about how she raised her voice to the girls, threating to drag them inside, sell their dolls and spank their bare bottoms, she admitted she knew it was too harsh but she had had a busy day getting everything ready for the yard sale the following day.
The workers she had hired showed up to help but then left about two hours later, leaving her with the mess, and the girls were on her nerves from the time they woke up.
She broke down sobbing harder as she admitted she knew it wasn't the Lords way to be harsh and cold, especially to your children but she was just so overwhelmed with the day, she feared at first that they had runoff after she yelled at them but when she found one shoe on the lawn dread filled her instantly and she knew they didn't runoff.
She told Andrew that she knew she should have told the police about her scolding the children but was too afraid that they would start looking at her and her actions and not focus on finding her daughters.
The mother sobbed harder at the guilt she felt, she was devasted to think that the last words she spoke to her daughters were in anger. She talked about how she would never forgive herself for speaking that way to her babies.
Andrew held the mothers hands and did his best to assure her that she did nothing wrong, and that all parents have these moments and the Lord understands mothers and the struggles they go through, they prayed together and by the time Andrew had left the sobbing had subsided into silent tears and prayer.
He took one last look at the mother crying her silent tears and the father holding her with a look of despair on his face, dear lord he prayed silently, please help this family find their little girls and make them whole. Amen.
Andrew had just finished whisking the eggs and pouring them into the pan when there was a knock at the door, he opened it up to find Sara standing there with coffees from the Restaurant. "Is that Restaurant dark roast I smell" he said as a greeting.
"Is that burning eggs I smell" she replied with a chuckle. "Oh shoot" said Andrew as he darted from the door and turned the heat down under the eggs.
They sat at Andrews small kitchen table with their perfect coffees and crispy but tasty eggs talking about the weather and how things are going at the church and precinct, the kind of small talk that comes before a heavy conversation.
Once they finished eating and Sara had insisted on clearing the dishes, they sat at the table and Andrew began "First off, I want to be honest and tell you that I can only tell you things that are relevant to the case and what I tell you needs to stay as confidentially as legally allowed".
Sara replied instantly "Of course Andrew, I would never put you in any position that would dishonour your vows, and your my friend, I will always have your back".
Andrew loved that about Sara, when you were her friend, you were her friend and she would be there for you and support you however you needed it, he admired that about her, her friendship was unconditional.
Andrew proceeded to tell her about how the mother was busy preparing for a yard sale they were suppose to have and that she was distracted by the mess that was left by the workers she hired to help move things out to the garage, when the girls disappeared.
Andrew explained how his mind kept going to the workers who left the mess, what company they were from? Sara asked" Did you find out the company name, or the names of the workers"?
Andrew was disappointed to tell her that he didn't, he explained that the mother was too distraught and he was focused on trying to help her remain calm. Sara nodded in acceptance and said " Andrew, that an excellent lead, I will look in to it for sure, good call my friend".
Sara proceeded to tell Andrew about the thought she and Lindsay have about the pictures, the haunted flag bearer and of Bubbies connection through the picture. Andrew asked Sara " Don't suppose you have the picture with you"?
Sara smiled and slid the picture over to Andrew, she watched his reaction when he read the quarterbacks name. "Huh, so that's what Casper looked like, I knew he was a football player but I always imagined him with dark hair" Andrew said with amusement.
His eyes then moved down to the haunted boy holding the flag, he stared at the picture feeling sad for him, what happened to make this poor boy look so lost he thought. He slid the picture back to Sara and asked "is there anything I can do to help? I don't have a lot of resources but what I have is at your disposal"
"Actually there is, I need you to check congregation records in the townships that surround Brewsters Bay, look for the name Martin Katz or the last name Katz, that's the name of the haunted boy, maybe him or his parents were bible thumpers umm I mean church members" she said and looked at him apologetically.
Andrew just smiled at her and said "I can do that for you, I can reach out to the pastors of the other congregations, me and my fellow bible thumpers will help".
Sara thanked Andrew for a tasty breakfast and sharing his findings with her, they both agreed to meet for dinner on Saturday with Lindsay and Bubbie and go over what everyone has come up with.
Once Sara left it occurred to Andrew that he should probably tell Lindsay about the Saturday night dinner, he knew she wouldn't say no, dinner meant drinks and Lindsay had no problem with drinks.
