Lindsay, Bubbie and Oliver entered the farmhouse through the front door, Lindsay saw herself crawling on the floor towards Sara and the girls, then her eyes shifted to where she laid on the floor waiting for her life to be stomped out by Martin Katz, where he fell before her in a crumpled heap bleeding from the eyes and temple she couldn't help but visibly shudder.
Oliver put his arm around her and pulled her close, they began to walk through the house Lindsay and Bubbie talking about the events that took place and Lindsay relaying the conversation to Oliver. Oliver couldn't believe what he was hearing, he looked at Lindsay with admiration and said "damn Lindsay, you are one tough lady". Lindsay gave him a wink then they headed towards the back room. They walked past the room with the nasty bed with nasty stories barely glancing at it, they all stopped at once.
Bubbie floated over to Lindsay and said "there's something here, I feel it, I feel her but not her shimmer". Lindsay felt it too, she also knew where it was coming from, she grabbed Oliver's hand and steered him back down the hallway, past the kitchen and to the top of the basement stairs, Bubbie shimmered beside Lindsay and told her that he was going to float down and check it out first, she needed to stay here and protect her boy, Lindsay flipped him the middle finger and he went off.
Bubbie floated down to the basement looking for any signs of Madeline's shimmer, he was ready to bolt if she was here, but he didn't think that was the case, he swooped around singing "come out, come out, wherever you are" but nothing came out, there was nothing there but he could feel the connection between her and this house.
Lindsay was relieved to see Bubbie appear in front of her saying that the coast was clear, Lindsay started down the stairs with Oliver behind her, she couldn't believe the smell, urine, mold, and sour animal rot filled her nostrils, both her and Oliver put their shirts up over their nose and agreed to be quick down here, she felt her heart break thinking of the two little girls being tied up down here in this dark, damp, hellish basement she couldn't help the tears falling from her eyes "those poor little girls" she said aloud, Oliver gave her a squeeze and began to look around.
Oliver had never seen such a nasty basement and he's stayed in his share of basements thinking of his time in Belize and the basement he hid out at for a month, but this was something else, he started walking around the room looking for, well he wasn't sure he turned around to Lindsay and asked "so what are we looking for anyways?"
Lindsay explained that in order for there to be a connection to one place there has to be a personal story attached to it, look for any boxes any size or any pictures no matter how old or faded they look, Lindsay had a pretty good idea what her attachment was and started looking around, she stopped looking with her eyes and let her instincts guide her, she slowly walked over to the small window, which seem to have a small beam of light shining though, pointing down at the spot she was looking at Lindsay dropped to her knees and began to dig.
Oliver crossed the room and joined her on the ground "you think you found something?" He noticed Lindsay wasn't hearing him what ever she was digging for had her complete attention, he dug his hands in and started helping her. Lindsay gasped when she hit something hard, the chill that ran up her was strong, she could feel her hands getting numb and yanked hard on the metal object, it came loose and she dropped it on the ground.
The metal object was an old canister that one maybe had sugar or flour in it, they all looked at the contents that had scattered after Lindsay dropped it, she saw the nub of a black candle, old faded papers curled from being in a canister for a couple hundred years, and a black and white picture of a man's body with the face burnt off. Lindsay started to collect the items but then gasped when she felt the pain in her hands, she rubbed them together and tried again, she gasped again with pain and pulled her hands back.
Oliver watched as Lindsay rubbed her hands again, it was clear that she couldn't touch it without feeling pain he looked at Lindsay and took her hand in his, jesus they're cold he thought. "I'll collect them, I don't think it will have the same affect on me" he said quietly. Oliver was relieved to be right, he felt no pain as he carefully placed all the objects back in the canister and put the lid on. "I'll carry it from here on out" Oliver said leaving no room for argument.
They all made their way out of the hellish basement and didn't feel better till they were pass the well and heading back down the path towards the car, Lindsay still felt a chill coming from the container in Oliver's hand and backed away from Oliver "I can't be near it" she said. Oliver didn't like this but nodded his head in agreement, he picked up his pace and left Lindsay walking back with Bubbie "what do you think Bubbie?" she asked.
"Well, I think that was her house once upon a time" he said, Lindsay agreed with him, it would make sense why she was there, maybe she was looking for this but had no way to get it, no hands after all, was Martin her pawn or was that just an unlucky coincidence, these questions made Lindsay feel uneasy.
They got back to the car and saw Oliver leaning against it with his elbows, Lindsay walked up to him feeling no chills and asked "where's the canister?" Oliver gave her his I'm a genius smile and pointed to the trunk, he explained that wrapped it in his jacket hoping that his essence will dull the affect. Lindsay was impressed at how quick he was learning the lingo "handsome and smart, dreams do come true" she said and gave him a tender kiss.
Lindsay asked Oliver to drive so she could call Sara and let her know what hey found, as they drove back to town Lindsay dialed, "hey Linds, what's up?" Sara asked. Lindsay told her about the canister the found and what was inside, she explained that the papers were very old and that she's afraid they will break apart if they tried to read them or the pain Lindsay will feel if she touches them "oh my god Lindsay are you ok, was Bubbie with you, how did you carry the canister?" Lindsay chuckled at the questions and told Sara that Oliver was with her too and that he saved her a lot of pain. Lindsay asked if Sara had access to a lab that might be able to open the papers without wrecking them, this time it was Sara's turn to chuckle "are you asking if Brewster's Bay has a lab, of course we don't" she finished. Sara told her that she did know someone in the crime lab in Bayworth City. Lindsay told her that she was going to drop it off to her at the station but Oliver would be bringing it in.
Sara was waiting outside the station when they arrived, she had an evidence bag ready and held it open for Oliver to place it carefully inside, "please hurry if you can" Lindsay said, she knew that time was running out. Sara told her she would send it courier and label it priority, Lindsay thanked Sara for her help and they drove back to Lindsay's.
Oliver heard Lindsay's stomach growl and looked at her, "music to my ears" he said and continued "a hungry belly needs to be filled, shall we stop for lunch or we can go by a grocery store and I can get something to make?" Lindsay told him she wasn't feeling being in public and would love to eat anything he gave her, she added this last bit with a sly smile, yep I love this woman thought Oliver.
