Forty-Four

As they traveled to his first meeting with the psychiatrist, Jungkook saw that Jin was sitting much farther away from him than he would have liked.

"Can you tell me why you are sitting so far away from me? Come a little closer." Jungkook says this as he reaches across and pulls Jin closer to him, gripping his right thigh tightly.

He said nothing when pulled next to Jungkook; he had been enjoying the car journey. Although he felt a bit tired and had a troubling headache, it was his first time leaving the Kingdom since coming, and he had forgotten just how wonderful life was outside of the Kingdom until this moment. It made him a little sad to realize that he no longer had the independence he previously had. He also felt concerned about whether their daughter would ever have the opportunity to experience life outside the Kingdom or if she would be trapped there as well.

Regarding the King's children, he had no idea what life was like for them, if they were given the same freedom as the King, or whether things were different for them. He hoped things were different for them because he wanted his daughter to see the world beyond the Kingdom, beyond a bedroom and its four walls.

Jungkook's first visit to the psychiatrist took place today, and from what Jungkook could tell, the psychiatrist who had been chosen for him had been replaced because Jungkook had developed a preference for someone else. Jin did not care who he saw; all that mattered to him was that Jungkook got the treatment he desperately needed.

He was, however, not expecting a five-hour journey to get there and back. Still, he was not about to complain since being outside the Kingdom, seeing nature for the first time, as well as the animals in the meadows as they drove along the picturesque road, made him feel at ease. While leaving Moon behind was the one thing he wished he could have done differently, the fact that she was with Jimin did not cause him any stress, knowing that Jimin and Yoongi would look after her as if she were their own.

In the middle of thinking, he was distracted by the sensation of Jungkook's fingers brushing over the insides of his thighs. Turning sideways, he gazed at him but said nothing. He was aware that they could not be seen because of the partition, but it still seemed strange to have him touch him in such a space.

"You know you are the first to ride in the same car as me?" Jungkook says, looking into Jin's eyes.

This took aback Jin, as he had thought that on all of Jungkook's outings, he had driven with Taehyung and possibly Namjoon or Yoongi in the same car, but he realized now that was not the case.

"I wasn't aware."

"It is generally rather lonely here, but now that you are here, it does not seem quite so lonely; still, I would appreciate it if you could spend some time talking with me."

"What do you want us to talk about?"

"It's been a month, and I feel like I am doing better than before; what do you think?"

After considering Jungkook's question, Jin decides to bite his bottom lip firmly. He could admit that he was witnessing some minor changes in Jungkook, but they were only minor changes. Nothing major had occurred. He was not expecting an overnight transformation from Jungkook, but he still wanted to see many things happen.

"I am going to think you are not paying attention to what I am doing, right?" Jungkook expresses disappointment at Jin's lack of reaction; he has become fairly adept at interpreting Jin's facial expressions to understand what his silence meant.

Jin sighed and shook his head, saying, "My- Jungkook, I believe you are doing the best you can at this time, and I respect your efforts. Once we meet with this psychiatrist, it will be possible to form much of the path you need to take in the future. Remember, we are still taking things one day at a time, and change does not happen overnight, particularly when you have not yet addressed plenty of things, so please do not dwell on that now."
