"She's not going anywhere," Jeff snarled. I cleared my throat, forcing myself to stare at the tall man's face-or rather, the blank, pale expanse where a face should have been.
"Uhm... may I ask why?" I asked respectfully.
Jeff snapped his head toward me, looking genuinely surprised by my manners. "How polite," he said, his voice dripping with a creepy, mocking edge. I ignored him, keeping my focus on the towering entity in the suit.
...Because you saw us. You saw Lj, Jeff, my mansion. And Me.. a voice echoed directly into my mind, cold and ancient. And you are a human living with one of my-
"I am not one of your proxies, Slender," Jeff scoffed, his grip tightening on his knife.
-with him. I cannot risk it.
"Are you saying that I might leak your whereabouts if I go out?" I asked. He sounded like father who cares about his children.
Ye-
"As if you're going to escape this place anyway," Jeff cut him off.
Suddenly, the room plunged into a deeper, unnatural darkness. A loud, furious static filled the air, accompanied by the wet, whipping sound of... tentacles? No, black tendrils. They erupted from the tall man's back like living shadows.
"Wha-?"
Stop interrupting me, Jeff.
The voice in my head grew sharper. It was strange to think he had no mouth, yet he could speak so clearly to our minds. Despite the danger, I found myself more amazed than terrified.
"Once again, Slender: She's. Not. Coming. With. You." As Jeff spoke, the tendrils lashed out toward me with blinding speed. I didn't even have time to blink, but Jeff was faster. The air hissed as his blade sliced through the appendages, black ichor spraying the floor.
"Oh no! One point for Jeff!" the clown---which Slender called LJ earlier---cheered from the corner. Slender Man's aura flared with irritation.
"Uhm... Jeff, I-"
"Just stay put!" Jeff snapped, his body a blur as he deflected more tendrils heading for me.
Why did it feel like he was protecting me? I shook my head, trying to clear the thought. He wasn't a hero. He had said it himself: he was my killer. He just didn't want anyone else stealing his victim, I guess.
Enough, Jeff. Hand her over!
"Then try me again," Jeff joked, his breathing perfectly steady. "I never even break a sweat doing this." He was right. He moved with a supernatural grace, as if he were born for this kind of violence.
"Oh, he just roasted you, Slendy!" the clown laughed, seemingly enjoying the scene while here I am getting worried how will this end up.
A tentacle suddenly whipped around, snatching LJ by the waist and hoisting him into the air. "Oh, c'mon, I'm just joking here!" the clown cackled, seemingly unfazed by being dangled like a toy. And it seems like Slenderman gave up when he stops lashing his other tendrils towards Jeff and went back to being calm.
Maybe I failed this time, but soon, I will not. Fear me not, my child.
As Slender Man spoke, I felt his faceless gaze lock onto me.
"Yep, because we've got something else to do," added LJ, waving at me as the tendrils began to retract and the shadows started to fade. Before they vanished completely into the forest, I found myself raising a hand.
"And why are you waving back?" Jeff's voice was sharp. I looked down and realized I had actually waved goodbye to the clown. I just shrugged because I do not know either.
"Who are they?" I asked, my heart finally slowing down.
"Old acquaintances," he answered shortly, while putting back his knife to its place.
He stepped out of the room, and I followed him. I couldn't stop thinking about them. Since its my first time seeing those kind of beings. They look like a myths that come back to life, but who am I kidding? If Jeff is real, so are they. But a question runs to my mind, would they have killed me? And that man... Slender... how did he breathe without a nose or a mouth?
I was so deep in thought that I didn't realize where we were until it was too late. I had followed him straight into the bathroom.
"Still following me, even here?"
"S-Sorry-"
"OUT!" he yelled. I scrambled out of the room as he slammed the door shut right on my face.
I just sighed and stared at the bathroom door and slighlty lean my back against the wood, exhaling a shaky breath. I waited a moment, then spoke softly. "Uhm, Jeff..."
Silence, but I still continue. I think I am used to him treating me a ghost sometimes.
"I just want to say thank you."
"For what?" he snapped from behind the door, his tone irritated. And I start to think, that it is silly to thank a killer.
"Well, first, because you took care of me on the road and brought me here," I said. Even though I'm not exactly glad to be alive, I added silently. "I never thought a killer would take care of his victim... even a little bit. And also, for saving me in the forest from the clown-"
"LJ."
"Huh?"
"That clown's name is LJ, short for Laughing Jack," he said, his voice surprisingly calm.
"Uh... yeah. LJ. Thank you for that-"
The door swung open abruptly. Jeff stood there, his hands gripping the frame, locking his lidless eyes on mine. I froze. He leaned in close-so close I could see the faint scars around his eyes-and seemed to sniff the air around my face.
"I never EVER had any intention of saving you or taking care of you," he hissed. "I did it because I want to be the one to kill you while you're in pain." He pulled back and tilted his head. "Don't ever forget that I am your killer. I can end you whenever I want."
"But you want me to suffer first, right? How?"
"Hmm. Good question." He walked over to the sofa and sat down. I followed, waiting. "Maybe that's for you to find out. When I see you broken by your emotions... by your memories of your friends and family... then I'll be there to end it. Because you sound apathetic sometimes.."
"I am not apathetic. Sometimes I just don't care and sometimes I care. And also, does this mean I stay in this house forever? Until my mind gives out?"
"Guessed right," he answered.
"Okay." I took a deep breath and turned toward the stairs. I stopped on the first step and looked back at him. "Make sure you do it, Jeff. Kill me... before time steals your chance."
I headed upstairs without waiting for a reply. Once in my room, I shut the door and fell onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. If he don't do it soon, maybe I might and there will be no more words to held me back.
