Today is our family outing day. Michael, Ashton, and Luke decided to hibernate to the basement and play video games all day while Caitlyn and Olivia go to Caitlyn's doctor appointment to give Ashton a break. "Where are we going first?"I asked our dad as we loaded up into some sort of Mercedes Bens. "I was thinking that I show you where I grew up and the places I liked to visit."He said pulling out of our garage.
"The first stop isn't that far away."He said. We pulled into the city and parked in front of a run down café. I was in the back and so Calum opened my door for me helping me out. "Thanks."I said. He nodded and walked inside behind our dad. He opened the door for us and the smell of coffee filled my senses.
"Is that David Hood?" hollered an old, slightly pudgy man behind the counter of the coffee shop as we entered. "Sure is Matthew. How ya been?"My dad asked shaking his hand. "Is this little Calum?"Matthew asked. "Indeed it is. Calum, this is Matthew. He has owned this place since I was a kid."My dad said taking Calum by the shoulders and leading us over there.
"And this, is Jasey. My daughter that I told you about."My dad said repeating his actions that he used with Calum bringing me forward. "It's nice to meet you."I said shaking his hand. "Order what ever ya want David. It's on the house." Matthew said waving us off.
"I used to come here all the time as a kid and even throughout high school before I moved to America. This was the place to be."my dad said. He chose the third booth on the right side and we all sat down. "I always sat in the same spot every time."He said in a reminiscent tone.
"It smells great."I said. "Hell yeah it does. Best food in town here. I had my first date here, and my first kiss here. A lot of firsts happened right where you're sitting."He said. We talked and joked for about ten minutes or so when a waitress came with our food. I had six inch meatball sandwich with waffle fries on the side. Calum had a bowl chicken alfredo with long noodles and our dad had a large plate of french toast.
"French toast for lunch?"I asked making him chuckle. "They're amazing."He said cutting them and putting a piece in his mouth. "It smells amazing too."Calum said already almost half way through his meal. I rolled my eyes and began eating as well.
After lunch we visited a few sites and buildings and then we came to a large highschool. He pulled into the parking lot and turned off the ignition. "Dad, why are we at your old highschool?"Calum said. Our father began unbuckling his seat belt and got out wordlessly. Calum repeated his actions from earlier and opened my door for me.
"This is where I met your mother."Our dad said softly as we walked across the parking lot and to the soccer field. I could feel my self tense at the mention of my mother and cringed. "Why are you showing us this? I don't want anything to do with her anymore."I stated. Our father sighed and nodded. "She wasn't always such a-uhm-well"
"A bitch?"Calum said making me smile slightly. "Yeah. That."Our father said nodding. We took a seat on the cold bleachers and stared out onto the field that was lit with the sun that was still shining since it was only about four o'clock. "But I was talking about Calum and your half sister Mali-koa''s mum, Joy. Which is why I brought you here so I could explain a bit before you find out another way."he said to me.
"It may be a bit late for that."I said. Calum and I began explaining our run in with Mali at the movies. "Well, I'm sorry you had to find out that way and that I never told you. I thought I was doing right by starting new and so I left my past in the past. I never even knew she was still alive truthfully. It's wonderful that she's doing well though."He said sighing.
"We've talked about you a bit with her. She says she doesn't remember you very much but what she does remember, is all good, and happy things." Calum said patting our dad's back. "She is a grown woman. She doesn't need me anymore. To her, I'm her father. Not her dad. I'm okay with that though because I was blessed with the two of you to have a second chance with." He said hugging us both.
