Camp activities were hard to get through. I was tired, barely able to move, but Seunghun had grabbed my hand on our first hike and dragged me around for the day. He was comforting, really, showing off everything that he knew about the camp. He was genuinely interested in what I had to say. He didn't say anything about the nightmare that he had, but he likely wanted to hope I hadn't noticed it.
I wanted to hug him. I wanted to kiss him and love him.
I couldn't start there, though.
We got our lunch from the mess hall, but Seunghun suggested that we should go and each outside of our tent. I took a breath. "Seunghun, can I tell you a secret?"
Seunghun stopped eating. "Hm? I mean, if you're comfortable."
"I'm gay." No sigh, no break, no second guessing.
Was it too soon? Was Seunghun homophobic? Seunghun was going to leave my tent tonight, wasn't he?
"Oh." Seunghun's reaction put me on the edge of my (nonexistent) seat, but he didn't freeze for too long. "Cool."
I let out the breath I was holding. "My parents didn't exactly like hearing that."
"Is that why you said it was your last year?" Seunghun asked, hitting the nail on the nose. "You're not coming back?"
"I'm not going back home in the first place," I sighed. "This is my home for now."
Seunghun wrapped an arm around me, the same type of side hug that I had wanted to give him while he was sleeping. His eyes were looking around, as they always were, and I followed them to a boy around my age with a vicious scowl on his face, mirrored by the one on Seojun, who was also looking at us for whatever reason. Seunghun clearly didn't like him, and he very clearly did not like Seunghun.
I took another bite of my sandwich.
