"When I was young, I lived in a village called Twi'ilk. It was surrounded by the forest, with tall walls to keep us safe. I was friends with another girl, a white-haired fox, named Kuro. She was shy and sweet, but fascinated with magic." Fiz explained, gently leaning against me.

"We were taught by an older man about all kinds of magic, and how the goddess Taiyo, who created the world, gifted everyone with magical cores, through which we could channel magic. We had not yet gotten old enough to choose our magic, though, like you did yours," She gently poked me. "But we both did research to learn which ones we wanted."

"That's when I learned about Ancient magic. I told Kuro about it, and we did more research, even getting books from traveling scriptologists. We found one research document, stating that Ancient magic gave you the power to do whatever you wished, if your core were strong enough."

Fiz stopped, trembling against me for a moment.

"... one night, Kuro and I snuck out and attempted to use Ancient magic to make more medicine - something our village was always in short supply of. We tried everything we could think of, but nothing worked. I thought we weren't strong enough for it. But then Kuro stepped up, raising her hands. She... I don't know what she did, but the clouds began to swirl, and a bolt of lightning struck the bottle of medicine we had, shattering it.

"Within seconds, a huge swirling storm had begun, and people were waking up, panicked and beginning to evacuate. I tried to tell Kuro to run, but she wouldn't. Black lighting was striking houses, and I heard my family yelling for me in terror. I pleaded with Kuro, and then, suddenly, the storm calmed."

"... but it wasn't over, was it..?" I asked gently. Fiz shook her head, shaking.

"No. Suddenly, black lighting struck Kuro and she was gone, a strange gliph on the ground was all that was left. I stepped away, and the sky parted, yellow light shining down and melting away the fire. I knew it was the goddess Taiyo, and I knew it was all my fault. I had told Kuro, had suggested using the magic. But the goddess simply told me that I was important, and she had chosen me to be her priestess.

"I was found by the Church two months later, living in ruins in the woods, with no memory. Aside from my name and the encounter with Taiyo, everything was gone." Fiz said.

"... you're lying..." Kuro growled. "That can't be it! What did you do to me!"

"I don't know! When you were struck, I thought I had killed you!" Fiz sobbed, collapsing again.

"Nyx told me that you shredded my soul! That you were nothing more than a pawn of that wretched goddess!" Kuro wailed in rage.

"I never meant for it to happen!" Fiz wailed, a mournful harmony.

"Both of you, quiet!" I yelled. The girls stared at me in surprise.

"Fiz, you had no idea what would happen. You can't blame yourself," I said softly.

"B-But.."

"No buts, Fiz-Bun. You didn't know and you were only a child," I said, kissing her forehead before turning to Kuro.

"Kuro, why do you trust Nyx?"

"I remember my childhood as Fiz described," The fox said scornfully. "After that storm, I was in a dark palace with a tall woman, cloaked in darkness and shadowy gems. She told me that Fiz had used magic to split my soul."

"... why did you believe her?"

Kuro froze.

"You never questioned it?"

"I was a child. I thought that-"

Do not waver now. Your promised love is here. The woman who split you apart is on her knees.

End her, my child.

"Nyx," I gasped.

"Nyx! Did Fiz really shred me?"

The air was silent.

"Tell me, Kuro," I said carefully. "Do you feel different? Aside from growing up, have you really changed?"

"What?" Kuro glared at me.

"Shredding one's soul would likely change someone, quite substantially... right, Fiz?" I guessed. Fiz nodded.

"Yeah... you'd be separated into your fundamental parts, like joy, love, fear, lust.."

Kuro stared at us, then to the middle of the room.

"N-Nyx! Answer me!"

"Kuro, do you feel like you're only a part of yourself?"

Kuro stepped backwards, stammering nervously as her worldview crumbled.

Ugh, finally recovering from the booster shot. Glad I got it, now I'm in trouble with my mom because she told me I wasn't allowed to have side effects.

Not joking, when she called to check in on me the other day, she did say that, albeit in a very joking manner, I wasn't allowed to have side effects.

...okay so I thought I posted this chapter like 2 or 3 days ago...

Nice.
