"Nyx!" Kuro called out, half-sobbing. "I need to know!"

Nyx did not reply.

"You haven't been shredded, have you?" I asked gently. "You've known this whole time that you were whole, you just were afraid of what would happen if you were right."

Kuro nodded slowly.

"...yes..."

My child, do not waiver. You are being tricked by this man.

Kuro looked around the room, her gaze settling on the center.

"I am..?"

He seeks to decieve you. To prevent my return. He is a pawn, chosen by the goddess of light to keep balance from coming forth.

Spill his blood on this stone and break the seal!

"Spill his blood?" Fiz asked. "What...?"

"To break the seals placed on Nyx's soul, blood must be spilt..." Kuro mumbled. "Blood with no natural magic. That simply does not exist this world."

Fiz gasped, gripping her staff. "But Thomas-!"

A ring of purple darts appeared in the air around me, shining with darkness.

"Don't worry, handsome man. Nyx will bring you back," Kuro promised, a strange dark fog in her eyes.

"Fiz, I think that Nyx might be using magic to manipulate Kuro! We need light magic!" I said, drawing my sword and slashing at a set of darts coming toward us. They were shaky and easy to deflect - something I took as a sign that Kuro was fighting Nyx's orders.

"I'm trying! But there's so much darkness in here!" Fiz said, planting her staff and focusing. The darts were avoiding her completely, even dropping out of the air rather than hitting her, while they all focused on me.

"Ow!" I yelped as one pricked my wrist. I grabbed it and snapped it in two, placing the tip in my pocket. The wound didn't look deep enough to produce any blood, but I didn't want to risk there being any on the dart.

"Don't hurt him!" Fiz protested, the light from her staff growing brighter slowly. The darts slowed, avoiding the light.

"I think it's working!" I said, narrowly avoiding a dart directed at my neck.

Fiz opened her eyes, gasping. The staff was glowing - not just the tip, but the whole thing. Kuro stepped back.

"You cannot stop Nyx! We must balance the world!" Kuro protested, her voice strained. Fiz took one step closer, and we heard a laugh echo from the room.

Not deep enough, you thought?

What was she talking about..?

"My wrist!" I gasped, placing a hand to my wrist as a single drop of blood fell to the floor, splashing on the stone.

There was a terrible moment of total silence.

The blood began to glow, like it was leeching the light from the stone.

I felt a sharp pain in my back, arm, and leg as more darts struck me before diving into the ground, speeding up the process.

I only said I needed blood. A single wound would be sufficient to break the bonds.

"What have I done?" Kuro gasped, stumbling back as she came to her senses. "No... Nyx, this was a trick, wasn't it?" She yelled.

A large crack appeared in the center of the room, as a dark black skeleton began clawing its way out of the crevasse. Fiz yelped, pushing us back behind her as she waved her staff in the air, making a glowing wall between us the the creature.

"Finally... after all this time... free to walk the lands again..." Nyx gasped, her voice raspy and inhuman. Darkness from the room slithered around her, forming muscles, tendons, nerves, and eventually skin and clothes.

"Nyx, the goddess of night," Kuro gasped. "The being responsible for the fall of the Ancients."
