Chapter 24

And then I woke up.

I mumbled slightly, sitting up and looking around. Everything was blurry, so I reached over to my nightstand and grabbed my glasses.

Wait.

... nightstand?

....glasses?

I like around at the room - my room - and my stomach dropped. This was... my apartment. I reached over and grabbed my phone, checking the date.

February 19th

I sighed deeply. Had it been a dream? There's no way, right? I know for a fact I'd never seen anyone else like Fiz, and you can't make up someone in a dream, right?

Maybe it was a nightmare? I did just absorb a lot of Ancient magic. I'll just have to wait.

...

An hour later, my alarm went off, telling me to get up for the day.

Maybe I need to play along?

I spend the next two hours trying to do... well, anything, really. Homework, housework, I tried cooking, but I couldn't focus on anything.

If I'm really back here, what do I do? There's no way that I could just move on from a girl like Fiz.

... on the bright side, there wasn't anyone else in the house to hear me crying. I didn't have any roommates, which honestly didn't help.

Maybe if I lived closer to one of my friends from before I moved out to college, I could hang out with them?

I sighed and stood up, stretching.

"Well... if I'm back here, I needed to pick up some more stuff from the store. Might as well go do that now." I said to nobody.

I tugged on my boots, tossed on a coat, wrapped a scarf around my neck, and walked outside.

It wasn't terribly cold, but I was from a warmer state, so it was pretty chilly for me. I reached an intersection where I needed to cross the street, just as the walk sign turned off.

There weren't any cars coming, but something stopped me from crossing - that "dream" I had... I had gotten hit and killed just before arriving. I'll just be patient and wait for the light to change.

The trip to the store was uneventful. There weren't many people outside, and as I was arriving back to my apartment complex, the sun began to shine through the thick clouds, warming the ground and my body.

I walked up to my door, and realized that it was open slightly.

Someone had broken in.
