Since this chapter was running a little long, I decided to put it into 2 parts! The next chapter is out right now!
~Adrien~
"I'm tired." "I know. You said that 5 times on the ride here." Marinette's right arm is thrown over my shoulder and my arm is around her waist. "I'm tired!" "How much did you have to drink?"
She smiles and leans towards my face. Her breath reeks of alcohol. "Not much. That wine is strooong!" I guide her down the hall as soon as the elevator doors open.
"I never thought I'd ever be this thankful for elevators." "I don't weigh that much." Her face falls. "Do I?" I laugh at her concern. "No. I just don't want to have to drag your drunk ass up the stairs."
"I can walk." She starts leaning away from me. "No Mari- don't-" "Watch." She moves her arm from my shoulder and nudges my hand away from her waist.
She tries taking a step forward, but her body is leaning too much on one side. As soon as she places her foot back on the floor, she loses her balance and falls. "Okay. Maybe I can't." I laugh and kneel beside her.
"I tried telling you that. Come on get up." I hold my hands out to her, but she pushes them away. "Leave me here. I'm tired. I can't walk anymore." "I can't leave you here." She closes her eyes and rests her head against the wall behind her.
I sigh as slide one arm under her legs and the other behind her back. As soon as I lift her up, she wraps her arms around my neck. I feel her rest her head against my chest and lets out a slow breath.
"You owe me one." I mumble to her as I walk towards the room. I place her down for a moment and open the door.
"Mari." "Hm?" "You think you can stand up for a little bit?" "I thought I wasn't heavy." "You're not. But I don't feel like carrying you." "I'm tired."
"Please?" She opens her eyes and looks up at me. She uses the wall and the floor to lift herself up. I wrap my arm around her again and guide her to the bed.
"Where do you keep your makeup wipes?" She responds my pointing to her suitcase.
I walk over and open it up. "The big pocket or the small one?" "Small." I pull the wipes out and walk back over to her.
I bring the wipe to her face and gently wipe off her make up. "You wear too much makeup." "That's ru-" I place the wipe on her lips and as she's talking, part of the wipe slips into her mouth.
She jerks her head back and rubs her hand over her mouth. "Gross." I try to hold back my laugh and she smiles. "I haven't heard you laugh in a while." "Because we haven't talked in a while."
She nods. "Because you're stupid." "You left without telling me. How am I the stupid one?" "I had a reason." "And what would that be?"
I know it's wrong trying to get this out of her when she's not in the right state of mind. Marinette would've told me by now if she really wanted me to know. But I don't care if she wants me to or not. I have to know. I need to know if it was something I did wrong, or if she left without telling me because she stopped caring.
"Letter." "Letter?" She nods. "What do you mean?" "Letter." "Mari you repeating the same word twice wont help me understand."
"I need this off." And with that, we're on a new topic. Marinette runs her hand over her lips. I laugh and continue to remove her makeup.
When all her makeup is off, I remove her heels and slide the blanket over her. "What? You're not going to remove my clothes too?" I laugh and shake my head. "Does that disappoint you?" "Yes." I furrow my eyebrows. "Really?"
She laughs and it's like music to my ears. I haven't heard her drunk laugh in a while. I missed it. But I will never admit that to her.
"You're so gullible Adrien." I smile down at her. "You're actually funny when you're drunk." "I'm always funny." "That's debatable." I walk into the kitchen and grab a bottle of water.
I place it on the nightstand beside her. "Goodnight Mari." I say as I walk away. "Night Agreste." I freeze in my tracks.
Something in me switches. Something I haven't felt in a while. My pulse quickens and my palms begin to sweat.
Agreste. She said Agreste. Her nickname for me. The one only she can say.
This is the first time she's called me Agreste since I've seen her again. Did I hear it wrong? I shouldn't care whether she said it or not, but I do.
I haven't heard anyone call me that in years. No one, but her is allowed to say that.
Was. No one but her was allowed to call me that. She's not a part of my life anymore.
I shouldn't care. But I do. Why?
I walk back towards the bed and kneel beside her. "What was that?" She hums and rolls over. "Mari-" I feel my hand reaching out to move the hair that fell across her face.
What are you doing Adrien. She hurt you. A lot. Don't let one word make you forget what she did.
I sigh as I pull my hand back. I'm not letting her back in. I can't.
~Marinette~
I'm woken up when a bright light shines in my face. "Marinette." Adrien says coldly. I find myself shushing him. "What the hell Adrien! Do you have to yell?" "I'm not yelling." "Well it sounds like you are."
"And did you have to open the blinds." I grab the pillow from under my head and cover my face. "Get up."
When I don't respond, Adrien walks over and pushes the pillow closer to my face. The air thickens. I kick him away and jump out of the bed. I feel myself gasping for air once I'm free from the pillow.
"Are you trying to kill me?!" Adrien laughs. "I had to get you out of bed some how." "And you thought suffocating me would do the trick?" "Well it worked didn't it?" "What the hell is your problem?" He rolls his eyes.
"Hurry up and get dressed." "For what?" "To explore the city." "What?" "Isn't that what you told Chloe? That we're going to explore today?" "Yeah, but-" "Then hurry up and change. I need to talk to you."
"About-" He doesn't wait for me to finish my question. He turns around and walks out the door. "Okay then?" I mumble to myself and get ready.
