The following day, I did the same.

As I noticed the clock strike 9, I took another 10 minutes to secretly go give water to him. In accordance with this of course I have questioned my superiors about it, but they simply referred to the drinking issue as another irrelevant conversation, stating that in times of desperation even the dripping water from the pipes could contribute as a source of water. These assholes. They do not know a thing about being decent.

I stood up from my chair and slowly unlocked the back door, my eyes shifted back to the main door. A pang of deep guilt and concern from breaking the rule and getting caught, but my morals stand against my worries. I decided to brush away my concerns and go as fast as I can. Even if I only manage to deliver the food and drinks, that's enough for me I thought as I looked down at my bento, which I had packed rice balls in. As I walked towards the cell I knew he could hear me, even from a distance away I knew he could hear my footsteps, slowly approaching him. As my hands clumsily fumble with the keys.

"You're here..." he said, a slight joy to his tone.

A small smile forms on my face as I realise he's okay. Although dark, I could notice that he moved closer towards the gate. After entering, I slowly pushed the door closed, locking me and the prisoner in. Lightly, I could hear the sound of chains dragging towards me. I stood there in awkwardness not knowing how to initiate it, should I be friendly? Stern?

After a bit of silence, he cleared his throat as he waited for the water to be placed in front of him. "Oh right...hold on.." I said as I put my hand out, still blinded by the darkness surrounding the small cell. I felt his frail fingers linger on my skin as he tries to find the water bowl. As soon as he succeeds, his hands moved away, leaving me to be comfortable with the distance.

As I heard him chug down his water, I decided to pull out a match from my pocket, along with a small candle. I kneeled and lit the candle up, the small flame lighting up a part of the cell. As the wax melted, I tilted it to the side, allowing it to drip as I placed the entire candle on it, enabling it to stand. At the side of my eye, I noticed very dirty feet, tightly bound chains. "I just thought you'd want some light so you can drink easier.." I said quietly, slowly pushing forward a bento with 3 large rice balls in them and pushing them towards him. "and some food...you must be hungry.." I said as I took off the bento cover, revealing the three rice balls I had made.

"I'm sorry I don't know how to cook that well, I hope this suffice-"

Before I could finish my sentence, the prisoner had grabbed hold of the bento, pushed it open and started devouring the rice balls. For the next few minutes, he rotated between drinking and eating, the sounds of which he was making showed one thing; hunger and thirst. I looked up at him pitifully, even with this candle I can't see him. I laid back as peace washed over me, being kind to people has never run me out of any luck. I moved forward to refill his water each time until his riceballs were finished and his bowl is empty.

"Thank you.." the prisoner whispered once he was done, the words of which were said in a very grateful manner, his tone sounded very genuine. I let out a light chuckle as I replied "You don't have to thank me.."

"You..know you shouldn't feed me and all..right?.." he asked quietly, his fingers now circling the bowl of water which he had finished. "Because you might escape?.." I questioned back as I played with my fingers, brushing them around one another in circles.

"I have..no intention of escaping.." he said admittedly.

Truth.

Or lie?

"Oh really?" I asked as I noticed his hands moved closer to the candle. He showed me his arms, the chains were unlocked.

"Really" he replied, his voice echoed with the truth.

"If you wanted to escape you would've.." I said as I notice him pull his hands back, the quiet sound of rustling metal as he attempts to put his chains back on. The prisoner hummed in response, a minute of silence passed by before he said something.

"Deidara.."

I perked up.

"Deidara?"

"My name..." he said quietly, as his fingers pushed onto the leaf wrappers for the rice balls, neatly tucked into the bowl. "My name is Deidara..." he said, as he whispered a small thank you to me.

I smiled and took the bowl, while simultaneously holding out my other hand. "Obito.." I said as I saw his hand move towards me, attempting to shake my hand. Both of us touch for an instant and I could feel his rough dirty skin against mine, but his skin looked smooth through the slight dirt covering it. "Sorry..." he instantly pulled away, after noticing me staring at his hand for too long.

"I-I'm disgusting, I know that...they haven't allowed me to shower.." He said quietly, a chunk of his bristly blonde hair covering his face, deep embarrassment echoed loud and clear enough for me to take notice of. "No...I don't think you're disgus-" I stopped midway as I guessed that is not what he wants to hear.

I cleared my throat before I spoke again.

"I'll talk to my superiors about it.." I said quietly as I heard him sipping onto his water, finishing it in an instant. "I...I don't think that's necessary..they would probably insult me or beat me in the process of it.." He replied quietly as his hand moved forward, indicating the empty bowl towards me. "More..." he said politely, but in a commanding tone.

"R-Right.." I responded, as my hands fumbled with the bottle, pouring the water again. A part of me pitied his situation. Brought to another village, locked in a cell all day. Waiting for judgement and orders from his village to bring him back. It must be terrifying, but this little frail kid. Did, he really, steal a forbidden jutsu?

After that, we just sat in silence as we both didn't try to talk again. There's so much I want to ask him, but I hate to pry and possibly bring up memories of which could keep him up at night. Before time was up, I had quietly left the cell. No longer questioning the prisoner's intention. He can escape, but he doesn't?

This just means he has no aim to escape.

Has he given up?
