The accident

Rose is 11. Finn is 11 also

Arthur pov

I was walking rose and finn back home. Normally they would walk without an adult however they got in trouble last night. Got home at 1 in the morning the cheeky bastards and their excuse was they lost track of time. So now, at 9 o'clock, they have to meet one of us at the garrison and we walk them home from there.

"This is so stupid" finn huffed kicking stones

"Your own fault" I tolled him

"We can't help it if we were a little bit late" Rose grumbled

"You were 4 hours past curphew. I'd say that's your fault" I said nudging her chuckling. She rolled her eyes at me and whispered something to finn making him laugh

"What's so funny?" I asked eyeing them cautiously

"Nothing" they said in unison. We were only a few minutes from pollys House when we saw Tommy. He was on his big black stallion riding closer to us

"Woah Tommy. That's a big horse" Rose said in awe

"No shit" finn said looking at her causing Rose to punch his upper arm hard. Tommy got down from the horse and lifted rose up

"Wanna sit on him?" He asked.

Rose pov

Tommy asked if i wanted to sit on the horse and i nodded my head frantically in reply. He chuckled and lifted me on the horse as he held onto the reins. He was stood next to the horse patting its nose

"Wanna get on finn?" Tommy asked looking down at my brother

"Sure" he said. Arthur lifted him up infront of me and I grabbed hold of his waist

"Make sure you're holding on kids" Arthur reminded us. We laughed as Tommy walked the horse to pollys House. We could see the house from where we were. But then, we heard a bullet coming from one of the alleys

Arthur pov

We heard a bullet and I didn't think much of it. But then I realised it had spooked Tommy's horse. The horse went back onto its hind legs as Tommy tried to calm it. I saw rose and finn falling off the horse as shrieks of fear escaped their lips. I went to grab the pair of them but roses hand slipped from mine and she fell onto her back. I managed to grab Finns hand and pull him off the horse before he fell. Tommy soon calmed the horse down and me and finn went over to rose. She was laying on the cobbled floor, blood pouring from her head. She had fallen on her back and was shaking slightly. I crouched down and her eyes were open but tears rolled down her face. She couldn't speak and only made sounds of agony.

"Oh my darling. Ssshhh. You're alright" I soothed her as I stroked her hair back. I went to lift her up but then Tommy said

"No. Don't move her. You could hurt her even more" I nodded and tried not to cry as I listened to her scream in pain

"Finn, run to pollys House and tell her what's happened. Tell her to phone for an ambulance" Tommy said as he crouched to his height and held his shoulders. Finn looked really scared but nodded and ran to get help

It was 9 o'clock when rose got hurt so it was dark and no one was around. I stayed stroking her hair that grew sweatier by the second. I could tell the pain was increasing as she was no longer screaming, instead she was breathing heavily and whincing. Screaming was too painful for her.

"I'm so sorry sweetie" I said to her as I tried to calm her. Polly had rushed outside with finn. She crouched next to rose and kissed her forehead

"I called the hospital. They should be 10 minutes" she said and so we waited. We were getting very cold since it was February but rose was getting warmer. When they finally arrived, they carefully wheeled her into the back of an ambulance.
