Marisa's POV
Saturday morning creeps up with the Sun forcing his hand in waking me up. I grumble reaching over to my nightstand and feel around blindly for my glasses and phone, resulting in both falling to the floor eliciting another groan from my mouth. I sit up and swing my legs around to touch the ground.
I grab my phone, turning on my screen to be greeted by Avery's texts and one missed call by her. I slip on my glasses and read through some of the texts and ultimately decide not to respond till later after I'm baked and have woken up more.
So that's what I do: first crack open a monster and smoke a bowl before getting into the shower and dressing in some cargo pants that hang low on my hips and a loose baggy band T.
I finally message Avery that I'm ready and she responds immediately saying she is on her way. Sometimes I wonder how I manage to deal with her high energy personality, but then I remember she's actually not that annoying and that's a hard combination to come by.
Avery doesn't take long before pulling in front of my house. At a lazy pace I make my way downstairs into the kitchen, grabbing a bag of pretzel goldfish before heading to the door.
"Risa, Avery's out front," my little brother whines, taking a seat at the island counter sulking.
"I know," I state walking past him, flicking his head when I move behind him. "And it's still a no," I don't even give him the chance to ask me to go with again.
I make my way out to Avery's truck. Once inside I open the bag and start munching cause my high is really hitting now. She puts her truck in gear and we head off towards this fair that's like an hour drive away. Luckily we have an agreement on what good music is, so we jam out most of the ride. Avery drumming along to the beat on the steering wheel and I just munch down on some goldfish and sit feeling content in the tranquility of the moment.
"So you got a plan or are you just winging this?" I speak up over the radio.
"Yeah sure I got a super simple plan actually," she grins. "Don't get caught by kitten."
"You mean bunny," I state.
"Kitten," she squints her eyes at me.
"Bunny."
"Kitten."
"Bunny."
"Stop, it's kitten."
"No it's not," I smirk looking out the passenger window. "And don't think I don't know why you wanna spy on her. You just wanna play hero, to swoop in and save the day."
"Do not!" She protests immediately with a pout.
"That reaction just proved I'm right," I said plainly.
"Whatever," she growls, tightening her hands on the wheel while a blush crawls up her neck and ear.
Not long after we find parking and enter the fair, Avery is bobbing and weaving her head around looking from face to face of every person within eyeshot to see if she gets a glimpse of a short redheaded cutie. We start walking aimlessly around with her still scouting the area. I'm looking for a food stand in hopes to find one that sells churros. I have a weird craving for a churro, it just popped in my head and now it won't get out until I get one.
"You got paid yesterday right?" I ask Avery absentmindedly.
"Yeah, why?"
"You dragged me here so you're gonna buy me a churro," I say.
"I didn't drag you here," she snaps her head in my direction. "You forgot your wallet." She deadpans.
"Yup," I nod.
