Marisa's POV
I find Avery in the hall with Emily bickering about something, I sigh, questioning every choice that got me into being friends with them.
"Sometimes I wonder if I could return you two but then I remember I lost the receipt," I monotonously said once in earshot.
"Well I guess it's a good thing I threw it away for you," Avery grins at me. "Hey can you slouch a little more, you're still taller than me," she pouts.
I look at her with a raised eyebrow. But comply, "This is gonna be really bad for my back."
"Yeah well you should have stopped growing in freshman year."
"Or you should have kept growing. It's only 2 inches, come on little one catch up," I say plainly.
"I can't believe you both went to that fair and spied on that poor girl," Emily complains.
"God just let it go, she ended up needing help anyway," Avery groans.
"Help, is that what you call those hickeys on her neck?" She narrows her eyes looking at me now. "Were you a part of all this helping?"
"Nah." I'm confused why she thinks I'd want in on that, if imma do anything I don't want Avery's annoying ass anywhere near me.
"Stop acting so jealous that I'm winning," Avery whines. "Why do you even care?"
"Ugh," she groans, rolling her eyes. "You know what you're right. I don't care."
She turns to walk away but stops glancing at Avery's shoes and I do the same, she's wearing her bright white AF1s. She smirks and steps on them and slides her boot over the toe to reveal a dark brown scuff that stands out against the spotless white sneakers.
Emily throws her hair over her shoulder before quickly walking away. Avery stands there for a second looking at the scuff with something passing through her eyes and I'm just waiting for her to snap. Then she does.
"Emily!" She runs after. "You get back here!"
"Green really isn't her color." I mumble to myself.
I begin to let my mind wonder on that thought for a moment and find myself picturing Emily as a ugly green goblin. It makes me almost laugh out loud from the absurdity, but also the fitting imagery. I imagine her stepping on every shoe in Avery's poor shoe collection till there all dirty and ruined. I could probably make a funny short comic stipe about it, actually I might just do that later.
"What's Avery mad about?" Liz chirps from beside me all of sudden, nearly making me jump.
"Her shoes," I shrug. "Emily stepped on them and now Avery's chasing after her."
"Oh," is all Liz says.
I start walking off towards the vending machine to get a monster. When I look back I don't see Liz. She must've gone to class or something. After I crack open my can and take a drink or two in satisfaction I make my way towards my truck to smoke. After dealing with idiot 1 and idiot 2 this morning, it effectively killed my high.
I hear scuffling as I get closer to the corner. I peek around not wanting to walk in on another Justine fight, that girl is psycho. Don't know how Avery's brother could stand her long enough to sleep with her, correction, more like would even want to sleep with her.
What I saw wasn't Justine instead it was that Cory, no wait Corbin, or was it Coby? I don't remember but he's friends with Jared and has Liz up against a wall with her hands pinned over her head. This makes my blood boil and I'm about to step in when I hear him speak.
