Marisa's POV
I'm so glad I only have like three actual finals to study for and the other two our just art finals, which I basically just have to show up for and pass. Avery seems to have the same feelings except its four real finals, and her gym and art class. Liz on the other hand seems to be having a hell of a time studying for her math final, the only class she has the need to study for. I did hear her talking to Mrs. Carson about taking her art finals in the same period so she can go to the library for some other tests during her fourth hour. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop but it has something to do with a European history final. If I remember correctly she didn't take European history this year, so it must be for extra credits.
We have two weeks before our finals which means there's three weeks before our graduation. I watch Avery look through her study guide for her science class with a bored expression while Liz is focused as she skims through a European history textbook she checked out of the library at our lunch table.
"What's with the history book," I finally ask.
"I don't feel like wasting a class course on a subject I can test out of," She explains. "I also need two history credits to graduate, and since I took American history this year, i'll have both credits."
"But why," I ask again anyway.
"So I have space to take more required credits next year so I can graduate early," She admits.
"But you'd need to double up on classes," Avery inquires.
"Not if I test out of the subjects," She smirks at her. "I'm also taking the sophomore English exam this year."
"What about math?" I smirk, but she just glares at me.
"I only need three years of math, so screw you," She rolls her eyes at me.
I just nod my head and go back to reading my book, which has nothing to do with any classes I'm taking. I don't hardly ever study till it's the week of if I'm being honest, not the smartest move but I cant motivate myself to actually try any sooner than last minute. At least when it comes to subjects I couldn't care less about.
After lunch we basically didn't do anything in any classes, except cram for the finals. More like suggested to cram for finals, most of the students in my classes just talked and hung out as the teachers did last minute grading. The seniors aren't even in the slightest bit motivated to focus so the teachers don't seem to be motivated to instruct. The juniors seem to be hyped to finally be seniors and the sophomores and freshmen all look either like zombies from their stress and anxieties, or like they're tired and just need a long nap.
Getting home was a hell in a half with the traffic. Avery was right behind me till she turned off to go drop Liz off at her house and just went straight to mine. Mateo was home when I got there, now that soccer season is over he takes the bus home now. Which makes my life easier, or at least cheaper on gas that is.
I walk in through the kitchen door and toss my bag on the stairs banister and head straight for the fridge ignoring Mateo's watching eyes on my back as I walk.
"Are you excited about college?" He asks, completely shattering my dear silence. "I would be nervous but also psyched."
"I'm both?" I admit eating a slice of turkey before cracking open a can of soda. "I'm nervous to be going to a new place, but excited to finally be studying exactly what I want to study."
"Which is art, just like Mom," He says more to himself than to me, but I still nod silently. "I'm gonna miss you." He whispers, laying his head over his hand on the counter. "You have to visit. Avery too." He demands.
