"Keiko caught what...?" Yui could barely say a word from what his father had concluded.

"The... star-tear disease..." Akiteru frowned. He knew his son loved Rumeko so much but, Keiko did as well. Or rather, not as Keiko did.

The two were talking outside Keiko's room after running some tests on him. They found traces of the disease in his eyes.

Now that medicine and technology have advanced over the years, many researchers discovered about the star-tear disease. It was rare but never impossible. About two out of a thousand one-sided love would either get you the star-tear or the hanahaki disease. As medicine and technology adapted, the diseases upgraded. Researchers were a step behind these diseases. They never knew what the diseases could do when it's reached its second or third stage. So, it is best to treat it while it's still early.

Star-tear disease patients had increased over the past decade. Most of them suffered blindness, some may had an eye surgery to cure the blindness but if you are not that well off, you'll suffer forever blindness. Some people died from accidents and some died from the so-called "star bleeding". Star bleeding is wherein the stars, instead of floating away after you cry, it would take over your nervous and immune system, slowly eating it away, which is concluded to be the third and last stage. You can say this was the case of [l/n] [f/n].

Nobody's sure what stage of the star-tear disease is Keiko in but based on the observations, it's not yet too late. He was probably in the 2nd stage. There's still hope. Either the person he likes will like him back or... the eye surgery.

Just like Hanahaki, there's a surgery that'll save the patient from going legally blind but— there's a chance either the patient will not survive the surgery or forget all the memories he had with the person he loves.

Yui was destruct. He had let his own greed blind him from the two love birds. He had let his own greed blind him from noticing what Rumeko truly feels about him.

Deep down. . .

He knew. . .

He was just some replacement of Keiko. A twin. A clone. A parasite.

Yet he ignored it.

He wanted to feel loved.

He wanted to know how it felt to be loved again.

Not that his parents were bad parents, they were just— busy all the time.

He didn't love Rumeko romantically. He saw her as a parent. That was his mistake. For now.

But now, it is time to fix everything he had done. He was about to call Rumeko when she suddenly slammed Keiko's door close as she ran in tears. Oh no.
