You know I cannot help myself.

Katerina 'Poppy' Papov was one of the girls that Natasha saved when she took down the red room. She spent her time with Yelena, helping her to help the other widows find homes before they were both snapped away by Thanos. Now Poppy is back in the year 2023 where she is approached to take Natasha's place on the Avenger's roster after her death. With guidance and encouragement from Yelena, she accepts the job from Fury himself as the newest member of the Avengers. She tries to find her place as everyone tries to find their bearings in the aftermath of Thanos. She finds herself in awe at being among the other Avengers including the super soldiers themselves, Steve and Bucky. But she soon loses her rose colored glasses and realizes that Steve Rogers isn't the man she thinks he is. The man before her is angry and jaded and hates her for ever thinking she could replace Natasha.
After coming back to present day from returning the stones and talking to Peggy Carter, Steve is left even more angry than he was before they brought everyone back after the snap. He always knew what his place in this world was; the fighter, the protector. Now he must retire his shield and finally learn to live in the world for the first time since coming out of the ice. No more fighting, no more Captain America; only Steve Rogers. Will he still like who Steve Rogers is without the uniform? Without the purpose and pressures he placed on himself? Will he learn to love the new world he had a hand in creating as well as learn to love himself? And will he learn to let someone else in as he does? Or is he destined to live alone like he believes he is?
I love old, grumpy Steve. I know you will too. 😉
Can we warm his icy heart? 🥺
