chapter thirty-eight

Isabella Evergreen

Isabella sighed. "Hey, Alana."

"What were you doing at the hospital?" Alana questioned.

"What are you doing at the hospital?" Isabella shot back, annoyed.

Alana looked at Isabella, "you don't have to be like this."

"And you didn't have to out me to your friends but" Isabella shrugged. "We don't always get what we want." she faked a smile.

Isabella and alana used to be good friends. Isabella grew up with Alana because they lived in the same town. Alana was the first to know about Isabella's trauma. They were good friends until alana betrayed her and told some people about isabella's trauma. Alana was nothing to Isabella after that.

Alana sighed. "How many times have i told you, im sorry-"

"Shut up alana." Isabella cut her off. "Shut up with the apologies. You betrayed and crossed a line and i cant trust or be friends anymore." Isabella rolled her eyes at the girl and walked away.

Isabella didn't bring her phone with her nor her pack of cigarettes, which she was dying to have. But, she did remember that she had a few cigarettes laying around at school so she walked all the way there.

The walk was about a half hour from the hospital to the school. When she got to her door, it was locked. Life couldn't be any more harder. Isabella was tired. It was around 22:00 and she couldn't get in her dorm.

Then Isabella remembered that Katherine had her extra key, so she started walking to her dorm quietly. When she was at her door, she knocked.

She heard footsteps coming closer to the door and the door opened, seeing Katherine in her night close.

Katherine looked her up and down, "woaw Isabella, you look like hell." she joked.

Isabella shrugged. "Felt like I just came back." she smiled slightly. Katherine always made her have bits of joy.

Katherine moved to the side, telling her it was okay to come in.

As the door opened, Isabella saw Lucas on the bed. He was on his phone. She came into the room, sitting on the bed that was on the side of the room. "Hey, lucas." she said to the boy.

He looked up from his phone to the girl. "Hey, isabella."

"How's school?" she asked.

"Well, being the only gay black kid in the whole school, its going good." he joked.

"So the kids are still being prats, huh?" she sighed.

He nodded. "Yeah."

Isabella opened her arms and hugged him, he hugged back. "If they don't stop by the time I come back, I'll batter them." Isabella confirmed.

"By the time you come back? Where are you going?" Katherine asked, who was now sitting on the bed.

Isabella pulled away from the boy and looked at katherine. She opened her mouth but nothing came out. She needed to say a lie, or anything.

"Were going to my dads for a while." a very familiar voice said behind isabella at the door. Her back was facing the door, but she didn't need to look to see who it was.
