"...What?" I glanced up at Diluc, who was glaring at the ground.
"Kaeya annoyed me, is all." He replied, folding his arms. It confused me.
"So you closed the entire tavern? What did he even do?" I snapped, almost instantly regretting it.
"Don't worry about it. Let's just go home." I sighed, and on that note, we both stood up and left the tavern.
"Where do you even live..?" I asked Diluc. As night time approached, I got really nervous about the upcoming days. If I even survived them, that was.
"Not too far from here, we can walk so you don't feel ill. Besides, it's dark. I would not be able to see." He stated, holding his jacket and gesturing for me to start walking.
It did not take a lot of time to reach half way to Diluc's house. However, we spotted more treasure hoarders, digging through somebody's bag. I felt bad for them, it must have been stolen.
"That looks like someone's bag." Diluc whispered, before tapping me on the shoulder. "We can't just stand here and watch their greed take over them."
I hid behind a rock and peeped over it slightly. Diluc followed behind me.
"...And? What are you going to do?""I'll finish them off."
"What do you mean?"
He quickly looked over the rock. They were still stealing anything valuable that caught their interest.
"Hm... if you tell them it's your bag, that might distract them. Then I will attack."I shot a glare at Diluc, trying to signal to him that it was not a good idea.
"What if they end up hurting us?""I will try my best not to let that happen, I swear. I'm not forcing you to do anything, though."
I sighed and nodded.
"Fine."Standing up, I nervously walked towards the treasure hoarders and made a quiet 'ahem' noise.
"Are you lost? What the hell are you doing here?" One turned around, making my heart pound.
"No, I don't think I am. You idiots are going through what's left of my bag, and I want it back. Now." I stared at them dead in the eyes, trying not to look as horrified as I actually was.
"Just kill her, boys." He sighed. "That mouth she's got is pissing me off."
Suddenly, I felt a sharp piece of metal slice across the surface of my arm.
I grabbed the cut, praying that it wouldn't start bleeding.Realizing that they had hurt me, Diluc immediately got up and killed them within a few seconds. Again, it was so quick, but this time I couldn't see what was happening.
"Are you alright?" Diluc turned his attention towards me, gazing at my arm to see if it was injured badly.
"I'm fine." I groaned, still holding the cut. "Let's just go."
I glanced up at Diluc's home as we arrived. It was nothing fancy. Just a small, comfortable place to live. It was nice, I admit.
"I have a spare room, you can sleep there if you'd like." Diluc opened a cupboard and grabbed a bandage. I caught it when he threw it to me, and I slowly started to wrap it around my arm.
"You're not doing it correctly, it might get infected. May I do it?" He asked. He understood that I was still scared of him, but deep down he wanted that feeling to change.
"...Okay." I agreed.
Diluc carefully wrapped the bandage around my cut. When he noticed the slight amount of blood, he looked a little uneasy - but could handle it.
"All done."
"Thank you..." I smiled a little bit, before turning around and heading to the spare room.
"Goodnight," He called out, walking upstairs to his own bedroom.
I flopped down on to the bedsheets, followed with a sigh. The duvet was quite comfortable - and really soft. It seemed I would have had no trouble with sleeping; but getting used to the new lifestyle was on a whole other level.
I did not even feel upset at that moment. I would have died either way if Diluc was not at my house; the treasure hoarders would have ended up killing me out of pure spite.
Then... why did tears fill my eyes?I felt them roll down my cheeks, drop after drop.
"Why am I crying?" I mumbled, cringing at the fact I resorted to talking to myself.
"It's not like I would have had a better life not being here..."I did not even know who or what I was trying to reassure.
Diluc hadn't hurt me.
He helped my bandage my arm.
He stopped the treasure hoarders from hurting me and stealing my stuff.
He has a nice and comforting personality. So why the hell was I crying?
"I don't understand."
I was about to fall into a slumber, before I heard the door knock.
"Hm?" I opened the door and made eye contact with Diluc.
"These walls are quite thin. Why are you crying?"
I gave him a blank stare for a second, before shrugging my shoulders.
"...Okay. Well, I'll be in my room if you need me." He gave me a nod, and turned around."Diluc?"
"Yes?"
"Genuinely... are you going to hurt me? Ever?"
"No, never. I would never forgive myself for hurting an innocent person. Especially you."
That was the last thing I heard, before Diluc's bedroom door closed shut.
Maybe... he wasn't as scary as I had thought.
