Pepper's heart sped up as the all too familiar house came into sight. The amount of time Pepper and Morgan had spent at Rhodey's hiding while Tony raged was much more than she'd ever care to admit. Pepper clutched onto her daughter's hand trying to stall for as much time as possible, terrified of what was to come. Pepper didn't realize how much her body shook until Natasha pulled her in for a rare hug
"You can do this." She softly encouraged her as they made their way to the backyard.
"Pepper you made it!" Rhodey exclaimed hugging her. She had a feeling he'd sent Natasha to her house.
"Uncle Rhodey!!!" Morgan squealed jumping into his arms.
"MORGIE!!!" Rhodey was one of the most responsible people Pepper had ever met and being able to see him relax for once was something that truly made Pepper happy. Everyone had finally found their happy place. Pepper's eyes scanned the crowd. Clint and Laura stood talking with Steve and Bruce while their kids ran towards Morgan.
"Wanna come hang out with us?" Lila asked Morgan who was grinning from ear to ear.
"Yeah!" Pepper smiled at Lila. She was always so good with Morgan. Her smile shot away at the saddened look that crossed over Natasha's face.
"Hey." She softly said, "You okay?"
Natasha nodded gulping "Yeah I'm okay, I'm okay."
"It's the one and only Pepper Potts!!!" Sam shouted as he and Bucky ran up to her. She finally relaxed. It really felt good to be surrounded by her friends all again.
"It's good to see you, Pepper." Steve smiled genuinely coming to stand nearby Natasha.
"It's really good to see you guys too." Pepper returned his smile. The group eventually flocked to a group of chairs while the kids ran in the sprinkler.
"Auntie Nat!!!!" Nathaniel screamed, "Come play with us!" Natasha smiled before joining the four. Pepper's heart warmed at the sight. Her eyes met Laura's as they had a silent conversation. They would do anything they could to get Natasha a kid.
"How how you been Pepper?" Bruce asked trying to keep the conversation going.
"I've been good." Pepper responded slowly unsure how to act around them "Morgan has too she just started at a new school." Bucky was about to say something when the back door swung open making Pepper jump. Luckily Thor walked through.
"Lady Pepper!" He bellowed happily coming over to hug her nearly squeezing her to death. Everyone surrounded the baby that was held in the carrier.
"Thor he's adorable," Laura said smiling down at the chunky baby.
"Jane sends her apologizes she was feeling unwell so she decided to stay home." All the adults focused on the baby-making the guest that had arrived go unnoticed.
"Are you gonna stand there all day or are you gonna notice your amazing friend who's standing over here." Pepper's heart dropped as she laid her eyes on him. Silence overtook the group. "Pep." He spoke breathlessly finally noticing her. Oh no.
