Pepper trembled noticeably as Natasha and she entered the house. Nothing about it had changed. The same pictures she and Tony had picked out together still hung on the walls.
"Supppp ladies," Sam said smirking as he wrapped an arm around Natasha playfully. Natasha rolled her eyes shrugging his arm off but couldn't help but smile.
"Pepper you made it!" Steve exclaimed smiling as he pulled Natasha in for a hug. Pepper returned his smile which faded slightly at the sight of Tony.
"Nat you look as hot as ever," Tony remarked causing Pepper to inwardly groan.
"Hands off my girl Stark," Steve responded although even he couldn't help the hint of a smile written on his face.
"Pep!" Tony cheered his grin widening "I didn't think you'd make it!" Pepper smiled fakely at him earning a look from both Natasha and Bucky.
"Maxi brought the good stuff," Bucky said nodding to Wanda who was practically already drunk.
"Leave it to Wanda," Steve smirked glancing at their friend. Hours later it felt like Christmas all over again. Natasha was completely wasted along with Sam and Bucky. Poor Steve had to help all three of them upstairs into bed. Scott looked as though he was about to faint and Rhodey was passed out. Pepper slipped outside quietly the cool night air biting at her skin. She shivered wishing she'd made the decision to bring a sweater.
"Seems kinda stupid wearing a short-sleeve dress in the winter." Pepper frowned not even glancing back at the source of the voice.
"Says the one who wore swimsuit bottoms to Wanda's valentines day party." Tony cursed, she was never going to let him live that down,
"Tooshay." He responded taking a seat beside her wrapping his jacket around her shivering frame.
"I'm fine." She said failing to hide the shaking of her body. He merely smiled in return letting silence fill up the air.
"Is Steve treating little red good?" Tony questioned possessively but Pepper thought it was cute the way he defended Nat like a sister.
Pepper nodded "Yes only the best for Natasha Romanoff." Tony however didn't look convinced
"He better not hurt her or I'll fucking ki-" Pepper cut him off by pressing a soft kiss to his cheek
"Tony, Steve loves Nat and he's never going to hurt her." Tony silenced his eyes centered on the sky above them.
"I'm so sorry Pep." He didn't elaborate. But he didn't have to. "I'm so fucking sorry I messed everything up." She met his tearful gaze
"You made a lot of horrible decisions Tony." She began "Ones that I will never understand but you have worked so hard and right now I'm seeing the Tony Stark who I loved not the one who made his life miserable." Tony broke her gaze both of their eyes looking up to the sky as fireworks erupted.
"Happy new year Pep." He said breathlessly his eyes meeting hers.
"Happy new year Tony." She responded their lips crashing together without a second thought.
