My head was pounding as I sat up and looked around, trying to remember where I was. Instantly I recognized Nat's living room from my many nights in the very room I'd woken up in and my curiosity peaked. How'd I get here? Does my mom know I'm here? How drunk was I? And lastly, where was Nat? I stood up, doing my best to ignore the pain in my head.
"Natalie?!" I called, walking around, looking for any sign of how I got here. Then Natalie's mom appeared from her room.
"Oh, hey Violet. How did you sleep? Natalie went to go get some food." She smiled. I nodded.
"I slept okay. Wheres Damien?" I thought about asking her how I got here, but I didn't know if she knew about my 'extracurricular activities' and frankly, I didn't want her to think badly of me, she was like a second mom to me.
"He's asleep. So, who was that guy you showed up with last night? A boyfriend?" She asked. I raised my eyebrow. A guy? I started wracking my mind, trying to figure out who I would've gotten in a car with. In my mind, there was no reasonable explanation, but no matter who it was, it was not a boyfriend, since I was single.
"Nope, just a guy I got a ride from. Hey, um, I'm going to go call my mom, she's probably worried about me." I announced, standing up. She grabbed my hand.
"No need. Nat did that last night." I nodded. Thank God for my best friend. Suddenly the front door opened and Nat flew in with a bag of Mcdonald's food and a few drinks.
"Morning Sunshine! How are you feeling? I remember you felt a little sick last night." She smiled, setting the food on the coffee table. I shrugged.
"I feel like garbage. Got any Aspirin?" I asked. She nodded and tossed me a bottle of pills.
"Well, I have to go. I have a meeting. Have fun, girls! Love you!" Nat's mom called, rushing out. As soon as she was gone Natalie began to frown, her hands on her hips and her eyebrow raised.
"Do you remember anything from last night?" She asked. I smiled sheepishly and shook my head.
"Ugh." She sighed. Then she explained everything she knew to me.
"Wow. You know, I'm actually kind of shocked he didn't just leave me to walk." I explained. She nodded.
"I was too. When I asked him he said it was because he wasn't a monster and he didn't want to see you get hurt. Personally, I think it was something else." She smirked. I raised my eyebrow.
"Really? Like what?" I asked. She chuckled.
"If it isn't obvious to you yet, then it doesn't matter. Hungry?" She asked, offering me some of the food she'd brought home. I nodded, taking it and grabbing my phone from the coffee table in the living room. I had no messages or notifications of any kind, which kind of saddened me, but it wasn't a big deal.
"You know, at some point, this feud between you two has to end," Nat announced, breaking the comfortable silence. I shrugged and sighed.
"Maybe," I responded simply.
"Not maybe and if it keeps going this way, it's going to end with tears and heartbreak." She sighed. I shrugged.
"No, because as soon as we graduate, you and I, we're going to move away and start great lives away from the Indigo-eyed idiot, along with any of our other problems." Natalie smiled and nodded, but she didn't believe it one bit.
. . .
I held my phone between my ear and my shoulder as I held Damien in my arms, bouncing him soothingly.
"No, I can't do that today." I sighed.
"Why not?" My boss, Julia, asked angrily. I frowned.
"Because I have to take care of my nephew all day," I explained, carrying Damien into the other room to sit on the couch. I dug into his diaper bag, pulled out his bottle of lukewarm baby formula, proceeding to feed him with it.
"What about your mom? Why can't she watch him?" She asked. I rolled my eyes.
"She's not feeling good today." I pushed. My boss sighed.
"Fine, but tomorrow you better be here." And with that, she hung up. I set Damien in his crib, fast asleep, and put the phone in my pocket. I went to my Mom's room where she was laying in her bed, watching T.V.
"Why are you still awake? You should be resting." I asked, sitting next to her on her bed. She chuckled and turned down the T.V.
"I got distracted by the T.V, I'm sorry." She explained as I laid my head on her shoulder. She leaned her head against mine and I could tell she was smiling, but that didn't always mean she was happy. I knew on the inside that she was worried about me and Damien, and Scarlett. She always worried about everyone, but herself.
"I love you, Mom." I sighed, staring blankly at the T.V.
"I love you too, Vi." After that we both fell asleep, at least I did until I heard Damien sobbing in the other room. Quickly, I woke up and rushed into the other room to tend to his every need.
"Hey Damien, you okay?" I asked, rocking him. He still belted out loud cries that made my head pound, since I still wasn't completely over my earlier hangover. I fed him and rocked him and checked everything he could've wanted, but even after everything he was still crying his eyes out. So I sat with him on the couch and waited until he stopped crying to put him back to bed. Soon after that, it was time for me to make dinner, so I went to the kitchen and began heating up some T.V dinners. One for me and one for mom. The microwave was the only light in the kitchen since I couldn't be bothered to turn on the actual light. It illuminated my face as I stood there waiting for the food to be ready. When it was, I ate mine and gave my mom her own before ending my day by going to sleep, this time in my own bed.
