I showed up at school with a frown on my face and a weight dragging me down. Indigo liked another girl, but it was okay because I didn't need Indigo. I was fine on my own and I could be happy without him, even though none of that was true, I did at least have him for an hour every day and that time was all mine. That thought was my only comfort as I headed to the spot where Indigo and I normally hung out before school. I had high hopes that I could at least be around him without breaking down. Those hopes were crushed when I spotted him in our normal spot, with his tongue down some girls throat. I was getting ready to run when Indigo spotted me and waved me over to him.
"Hey, Vi!" He called. I turned around and hesitantly headed over to them, my hands shaking and my eyes building with tears, but I refused to cry in front of Indigo.
"Hey." I waved, faking a smile. Indigo was smiling that 'in love' smile again. The one that was bright and reached his eyes so easily. If you looked at the smile you could tell exactly who caused it. It killed me on the inside, but I ignored it for him.
"Hey, this is Rayne. Oh, and apparently Mr.Matthews trusts us again because there's not going to be a teacher at tutoring today." He smiled. I nodded looking at her. She was pretty and looked nice enough.
"Hey Rayne, I'm Violet. Indigo's...friend." I introduced. It felt weird to call myself his friend and I felt my entire world darken. It'd been so many years since I'd introduced myself like that.
"Nice to meet you. I love your eyes, they're so pretty and rare." Rayne smiled, tilting her head. Her smile felt so artificial to me, but I convinced myself that it was just me trying to justify an actual reason for hating her.
"Thank you. Well, while this has been... well, I'm going to go find Nat. See you at tutoring Indigo." I nodded, rushing off, trying to push down all of my feelings. 'At least he's mine at tutoring.' I thought as I searched for my best friend.
. . .
"Yeah. He has a girlfriend." I explained to Nat as she walked me to tutoring. She sighed.
"I'm sorry. Are you okay?" She asked. I shrugged and looked down.
"I'll live. I lost my chance three years ago. I was crazy to think I could have another one. I have to go. Have fun." I sighed, walking into the tutoring. My stomach dropped instantly at what I saw. Indigo was there, but so was his girlfriend. She was sitting on a desk that he was sitting in and they were kissing intensely. So intensely, that neither of them even noticed me walking in and standing in front of them, so I cleared my throat, causing them to pull apart.
"Hey, Vi. You don't mind if Rayne stays, do you?" He asked. On the inside, I was fuming. This was supposed to be my time. Mine! The only time I was going to get with just Indigo and she ruined it, but on the outside, I smiled and shook my head.
"Not at all." Then I sat down at a desk and began doing some homework. They were talking about a couple of things and it was starting to disgust me, so I put my headphones in. It blocked out all of the noise until Indigo stood up and kissed her cheek, so I pulled out one of my headphones and looked at them.
"I'll be right back. I'm gonna get a snack from the vending machine." He explained to her and me. I nodded and then Rayne revealed her true colors by looking me directly in the eye and then turning and kissing Indigo with a ferocity that made my insides boil. I looked back down at my work, but I could feel her walking towards me as soon as he left.
"Violet. How come I've never heard of you?" She asked. I looked up at her.
"Probably because you only met three days ago." I retorted, not meaning to sound as sarcastic and bitchy as I knew I did. She scoffed.
"Really? And how long have you known my precious Indigo?" She asked, a smirk on her face. I raised my eyebrow at her and chuckled.
"Somewhere around eighteen years, rookie," I smirked at her. At least I had that upper hand. She rolled her eyes.
"Wow, did you two ever kiss? Obviously not because if so, he would be with you right now and not me, but oh well. One person's trash is another one's treasure." She smirked and leaned on my desk. My blood was boiling.
"We have kissed. Many times. That's what happens when you're with someone for a year." I growled. She shrugged.
"So then what happened? He realized what a bore you are?" She smirked. I glared at her and screamed internally.
"It got complicated, but I can guarantee that you and him aren't going to last. Indigo is a nice guy and you are nothing but a slut who he decided to entertain his time with." I snapped. Just as the words left my mouth Indigo re-entered the room, walking over to Rayne, who plastered on a smile and kissed him.
"Hey, how are my two favorite girls?" He chuckled, looking between us. I shrugged.
"We're great." I faked a smile. She nodded.
"Perfect. I have to go, but I'll catch you later Cutie.." Rayne dismissed, rushing out.
"So, where'd you two meet?" I asked, a lump forming in my throat. He smiled.
"A street race, she was my opponent." He explained. My fake smile dropped.
"You're street racing?" I asked. He nodded and shrugged.
"Yeah, why?" He asked.
"That's dangerous," I replied to point out the obvious.
"Okay?" He asked.
"You could get hurt!" I explained. He gave me a look, noticing that I was beginning to get angry.
"Hey, how come you get the right to lecture me, you're the alcoholic!" He observed. I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not an alcoholic. I just drink sometimes." I argued. He tilted his head.
"Sometimes? It stops being sometimes when it becomes a weekly thing." Indigo retorted. I raised my eyebrows and shook my head.
"Whatever, Indigo." I hissed, storming out of the room.
