Just as I'd expected, the next day as I was sitting in first period Mr. Matthews called me to his office.
"Hey Mr. Matthews, did you need anything?" I asked, leaning back in the chair. He sighed.
"You skipped yesterday." He pointed out.
"And? You can't force me to stay." I responded.
"Correct, but sadly for you, you are failing meaning I can force you into tutoring at school." He retorted with a triumphant smile.
"That's not fair," I argued, my smile fading.
"I tried to give you a chance to do it where you wanted but you forced my hand." He shrugged.
"Fine, but I'm certain Indigo is done with all of this." I attempted to get out of it.
"We already spoke. Be in the office after school for tutoring. I hope you enjoy your temporary partner." He sighed, waving me away. I sighed, glaring at him before heading back to class.
. . .
I slung my bag over my shoulder, walking out of my class just after the bell rang. School was over and every instinct in me was pleading me to go home, but I didn't listen. Instead, I headed directly to the office with a permanent pout on my face.
"Hey, Vi!" A familiar voice called, rushing up to me.
"Hey, Nat. Why aren't you on your way home by now?" I asked with a chuckle. She sighed and crossed her arms.
"Had to finish some things. Why are you still here?" She asked. I slowed my pace, giving us enough time to finish our conversation as we walked.
"Tutoring has been moved to the office now apparently. I have to go. Have fun." I explained, trudging into the office. The first thing I spotted when I entered was Indigo sitting in a lounging chair, undoubtedly waiting for me.
"Hey." I greeted bitterly, walking over to him and sitting in the chair next to his. He looked up at me with a raised eyebrow and smirked.
"Hi, where's Mr. Matthews?" He asked with resentment in his voice.
"Most likely at home. Why would he stay in this hell hole and worst of all....with you?" I replied, leaning back.
"Wow, you're full of insults today. I would ask if you got them from a book, but you'd need a brain for that." He shot back. I chuckled.
"Sorry, what? I couldn't hear you over your enormous ego." I retorted. Suddenly a teacher walked in and stood in front of us.
"Violet and Indigo?" She asked with a smile on her face. We both nodded, standing up.
"I have been assigned to oversee your tutoring sessions from now on. I'm Ms. Jackson, now if you will, please follow me." She demanded. We followed as she led us to her classroom and unlocked the door. As soon as we got in we went straight to the back of the room.
"I trust that you two won't be causing any trouble." She announced, sitting at her desk and putting headphones on. Seeing as I could hear her music very faintly from where I was, I knew she couldn't hear us.
"This is just great." Indigo sighed, leaning back in his seat. I glanced over at him.
"You're a bucket of sunshine, aren't you?" I rolled my eyes sarcastically. He glared at me.
"It's your fault we're here to begin with. You're unbelievable. I can't believe..." Indigo trailed off, knowing better than to finish his sentence. Our feud may have been a messy one, but there were a few things that we weren't allowed to talk about negatively. 1. Family. 2. Nat or Todd. 3. Our past. I didn't realize what he was talking about at the time so I urged him to continue.
"What?" I asked. He shrugged, trying to stop me from pushing.
"You can't believe what?" I asked, fire in my voice. I had a suspicion that I knew what he was going to say, but I wasn't sure so I pushed and pushed.
"Indigo. What can't you believe?!" I demanded. He stood up in anger, slamming his hands on a desk so loud I was shocked that the teacher didn't hear it.
"I can't believe I ever dated you!" He snapped. I was a little shocked at first, not about what he said, but that he'd even bring it up, but as soon as I recovered my hand went up and collided with his cheek as hard as it could. I wasn't thinking. I was acting on pure emotions at that moment and though I wouldn't admit it, I never regretted being with Indigo, because we all do crazy things to be happy, so him saying that he regretted being with me was a mental slap to the face, ensuring him a literal slap to the face. I could feel tears welling in my eyes, but before he even got a chance to speak, move, or even react to what had happened I rushed out, ignoring 'Ms. Jackson's' protests.
. . .
I banged on Nat's door ferociously, my face dry now, but my eyes still red and puffy. Her mom opened the door and as soon as she saw me, pulled me into a huge hug.
"Oh my God, Violet. Are you okay? What's wrong?" She asked, stroking the back of my hair. I nodded, pulling away, tears were once again building up in my eyes and I was terrified that they were going to fall. I knew that I was overreacting. It wasn't that big of a deal, but with everything going on I couldn't help but break down.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Is Nat here?" I asked, looking past her. Nat was standing behind her and as soon as she saw me she nearly toppled her mom over and leaped into my arms.
"Oh my God. MY POOR CHILD! Are you okay? What happened? Have you hid the body?" She asked, hugging me so tight I could hardly breathe. I smiled a bit and walked inside with Nat and to her room. She sat me on her bed and sat in front of me.
"It was Indigo wasn't it?" She asked. Then it all came out. I began to rant, telling her everything that happened at tutoring and explaining why I was overreacting and just blabbering on and on so much that I began to cry again. She pulled me into a hug and held me as I cried.
"I know Violet, let it out." She cooed, but I knew for a fact she was thinking: I told you so.
