I sat there staring at Principal Matthews as he sat in front of us, faking confidence.
"But Pete, we both know that is a really bad idea." I pointed out, trying my best to talk him out of it. He sighed.
"I'm very aware of that Violet, but it is the only option you have unless you want to fail the entire year. As soon as you start to pass all of your classes the tutoring will be done, but you have to do at least three weeks until we get your progress report." He explained. I sighed, leaning back in the chair I was sitting in.
"When do we start?" I gave in, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Monday. You can tutor where ever you want, just get it done." He explained. I nodded, but Indigo was fuming next to me.
"Wait! How is this fair? She fails and I get punished?" He complained. Principal Matthews just raised his hand, silencing Indigo.
"Violet, You are dismissed, have a good weekend." He waved me out. I quickly jumped up from my seat and rushed out, leaving Indigo inside. I waited outside for a few minutes when Indigo passed through the doors, heading my way. He had a mixture of anger and irritation in his eyes as he stomped over to me.
"Yes?" He asked, obviously annoyed that I was still there. I let out a sigh and licked my lips out of habit.
"Where do you want to do this?" I asked, trying to portray how much I hated the idea through the anger in my voice.
"Grayson's Cafe?" He suggested, raising his eyebrow. I nodded and turned around rushing to my Honda Accord and speeding home.
. . .
I slammed the front door closed, rushing towards the living room where I found my mom sitting on the couch with Damien, my nephew, in her arms.
"Oh! I'm so sorry Mom. I had to talk to Principal Matthews after school. I'll take him." I rushed over to her, taking the small three-month-old child from her. She smiled up at me.
"It's fine Violet. I don't mind taking care of my Grandson when I can." She chuckled as I looked down at my nephew.
"He is so cute. I can't believe Scarlette. What kind of mother leaves their kid with a teenager and her elderly mother and just disappears?" I growled under my breath.
"A bad one. She wasn't ready to be a mother. I'm very proud of you, on the other hand, for stepping up to the plate as you have." She beamed up at me. I nodded.
"Well, I would feel bad forcing the burden upon you. You're old and frail." I teased. She chuckled and gave me a fake glare.
"I may be old, but I can still kick your ass." She joked back as my phone began ringing. Quickly I handed Damien to my mom and answered my phone.
"Hello?" I questioned, pushing the phone to my ear.
"Hey, Violet! There is a mad party going on at Julian's place and I was wondering if you'd meet me there." A guy named Flynn spoke into the phone. Instantly I could tell he was high, but I didn't care if it meant a break from my life.
"I can try. I'll text you an answer in a bit." I responded, hanging up and shoving my phone back in my pocket.
"Mommy." I cooed, trying to sound all innocent. She rolled her eyes and smiled.
"Yes, angel?" She asked. I chewed on my bottom lip and smiled at her.
"Can I please go to a party? I swear I'll be safe, I won't drink or smoke, and I'll be home by midnight." I promised, giving her puppy dog eyes. She sighed and nodded.
