I walked next to Indigo, a smile on my face.
"I think Todd has a thing for Nat." Indigo chuckled, walking steadily next to me. I nodded.
"I could see that." I chuckled back. Ever since Indigo and I had gotten on somewhat good terms the day before everyone had been watching us as if we were a bomb getting ready to explode.
"Have you noticed all the eyes on us now, or is that just me?" Indigo joked. I chuckled.
"It's not just you. It's like they're expecting us to blow up any second now." I explained. He nodded.
"I think they've seen us arguing for three years and now that's all they know." He explained, looking down at me. The sudden attention wasn't the only unusual thing happening since the day before. I had started to get a warm feeling in my stomach when I saw Indigo. It was exactly like freshman year and it terrified me.
"I need to stop by a class before the first period, but I'll see you after school. Bye!" Indigo chuckled, rushing off. As soon as he was gone I felt a huge pit of disappointment in my stomach, but I ignored it. I couldn't let it go there again, and honestly, I was angry I'd let it get this far.
"Okay, and Social Studies?" Indigo asked, a smile on his face.
"72," I responded, cheerfully. He chuckled and high-fived me before leaning back in his seat.
"That means we won't have to continue this tutoring for much longer." Indigo looked so pleased with that, so happy, but I wasn't pleased with it because I knew the only reason we were being friendly again was that we had these tutorings and without them, we'd go straight back to how we were and because I'd let it get this far, I couldn't let that happen.
"You okay? You just got this look." Indigo asked, giving me a concerned look. I nodded, plastering on a smile.
"I'm great. No more tutoring. Yay!" I put on an act, just so I could pretend that I couldn't already see my world getting darker and darker.
. . .
"Nat, I don't know what to do," I explained, sitting in front of her. She raised her eyebrow.
"My advice: be honest with him. There's nothing worse than lingering in the darkness, not knowing if someone feels the same about you as you do about them." She sighed. I nodded.
"You're right. I'll tell him Monday. For now, we're going to have a badass girls' night. I mean pizza, ice cream, chick flicks, makeovers, prank calls, the whole shabang." I chuckled.
. . .
Indigo sat at a booth in front of Todd with a huge smile on his face.
"I have something to tell you, and I'm not sure how well you're going to take it, so just prepare yourself." He spoke to his best friend.
"Okay?" Todd responded wearily. Indigo took a deep breath and calmed himself down.
"I think I like Violet." Indigo blurted. Todd sighed.
"Damn it, I owe Nat $20." He chuckled. Indigo raised his eyebrow.
"You're okay with it?" He asked. Todd shrugged.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He asked.
"Because it ended pretty badly last time and if it goes bad again, you're going to have to be there to help pick up the pieces," Indigo explained. Todd smiled.
"That's what best friends are for. Does that mean you're going to go for it?" He smirked. Indigo gulped and nodded.
"I think so. I might do it Monday. For now, I have to go to work. Thank God my coworker agreed to take my shift while I talked to you, but sadly time to head back to Hell." Indigo chuckled, rushing off to work.
. . .
Indigo slid past the finish line spray-painted on the road in first place once again, a smile growing on his face. He was on top of the world as he hopped out of his car and strutted over to his opponent.
"Keys please." He smiled, holding out his hand. Then he got a good look at his opponent and damn, she was gorgeous.
"Indigo, right? I'm Rayne." She introduced with a bright smile. Indigo smiled in response, holding his hand out for a handshake. She was fairly attractive, with her long maroon hair and blue eyes. She wore a leather jacket over a white T-Shirt and some black jeans, but what really caught his attention was the mischievous smirk she wore that just seemed all too familiar.
