Indigo turned off his car, leaning back in the seat and sighing. After what'd he said to Violet yesterday he felt completely guilty. In their feud, there were not very many rules, but that was very much one of them and he broke it just because he didn't want to be in a class longer than he had to. To be honest, the thing that hurt the most was that he was sure he saw tears in her eyes as she rushed off. He didn't see any reason for tears, but Violet was Violet and that meant she was confusing. He sighed, pushing his car door open and stepping out, looking around at the school. There was an exciting atmosphere today, probably because tomorrow was Friday. Indigo spotted Todd and walked over to him.

"Hey, Todd!" He greeted, waving at him.

"Indigo, I heard what you said to Violet," Todd announced. Indigo tilted his head in confusion.

"How?" He asked. Todd shrugged.

"Just because you and Vi 'hate' each other, doesn't mean Nat and I can't talk." He explained. Indigo leaned on the wall.

"Did Nat say how she was doing afterward?" He asked, hoping he'd only imagined the tears in her eyes. Todd was silent, giving him a sympathetic look.

"Look, how about tonight after work we go to another race and get your mind off of it?" He offered. Indigo nodded.

"Yeah. Sounds good." He sighed.

. . .

I stormed into Mr. Matthews' office, anger radiating off of me.

"Matthews!" I snapped. He raised his eyebrow at me.

"I truly don't see why you're so mad at me. You're the one who disrespects and disobeys me daily. For example, yesterday. You stormed out of tutoring." He responded. I nodded, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Yep, and I'm not going back. I don't care what you say. I'll fail, I'll do anything, but I'm not going anywhere near that asshole." I demanded. He glared at me and stood up.

"Violet, do you want that kind of future for yourself?" He asked, walking around his office as if he was going to go into detail about some super-secret plan. I sighed.

"Matthews, I just want a life where I never have to see those Indigo eyes ever again," I explained. He shook his head.

"That's not true. You want a life where you can take care of your family, your mom, your nephew." He pushed. I was shocked. I didn't expect him to bring that up. No one ever brought up my home life. No one. I sighed and looked around.

"Your point?" I asked, clearing my throat. He tilted his head.

"Do you think you'll be able to have a real-life working as a barista at a coffee shop forever?" He asked. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair out of frustration.

"Yes-No-Maybe. Look, I don't care. I will figure something ou..."

"No, you won't because you're continuing this tutoring. If not for yourself, for your family." He stacked some papers on his desk and sat down, looking up at me.

"You're dismissed." He'd made me angry, but he was right. I needed to start taking school more seriously for Damien and my mom.

. . .

I walked into the tutoring, glancing over at Ms. Jackson, who had one headphone on this time instead of both, most likely to stop any more incidents like yesterday.

"Violet." Indigo's voice greeted me from next to me. I turned around and looked at him, not having the energy to even say hello.

"Indigo." I greeted, sitting at a desk and pulling some homework out of my bag and doing it easily as Indigo slid into the desk next to me.

"Violet, look, I'm really sorry for what I said yesterday." He apologized. I nodded.

"As you should be." I scoffed, continuing my work. He looked down, obviously filled with guilt.

"Violet. I'm sorry. I just, I got upset. We 'hate' each other, remember? I'm not supposed to want to be around you more than I have to be, so I got upset that I had to, but I crossed a line with what I said and I am truly sorry." He apologized. His words sunk in and to me, it sounded awfully sincere. I had no idea what to do. It felt as if the entire feud was falling apart, but I couldn't help but feel that meant so was any connection Indigo and I had that was left and for some reason, the thought made me very upset.

"Hate is putting it lightly," I remarked. He sighed, looking down.

"Violet.."

"Indigo, if you're just going to apologize again then save your breath. I'm just going to do my work and then in two more weeks, I will be able to go back to avoiding you for the rest of my life." I explained, staring at my homework. He was silent before he lifted his head and looked at me.

"Violet. Please forgive me." He pleaded. I sighed and looked at him.

"Will it get you to shut up?" I asked. He nodded.

"Then fine. You're forgiven. Now leave me alone." I demanded. He tilted his head.

"How's your mom?" He asked, making me look up at him, anger in my eyes.

"Wow, two rules now," I growled.

"No, no, I am not going to speak negatively about anyone in your family. I just want to know how she is." He held his hands up in defense. I sighed and shrugged.

"She's fine, I guess," I responded. He nodded.

"I'm glad. Tell her I said hi. Has she changed any?" He asked. I shook my head. For some reason talking to Indigo about this reminded me of happy times when it seemed like the whole world was brighter.

"Nope. She's still full of life, ironically." I chuckled. He let out a soft chuckle, looking down at the desk.

"And Damien? How's he?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow.

"How do you know about Damien?" I asked. He shrugged.

"Word travels fast when it comes to you, Vi." He smirked. I smiled and shrugged.

"He's good. Probably misses Scarlette." I explained. He shrugged.

"I don't know, I say he has a pretty good replacement for now." He smiled. For the rest of tutoring Indigo and I talked like this and just as it had four years ago, the world just seemed 10x brighter.
