9. kabhi kabhi
Neil and Aarohi were just inchces apart from kissing, but before Neil could lean any further, Aarohi whispered to him, "mujhe laga tum busy ho ye sab ke liye?" She leaned in, tilting her head and Neil gulped, after a long time did he find himself so close to a girl. He looked at her eyes, those sharp and witty eyes and then his gaze lowered to her lips and once again found himself being entangled in the strings of an attachment.
Aarohi held her breath, and with another teasing lean in, she whispered against his ears, "Good night," She said as Neil shut his eyes, her breath fawning over his cheeks and he never felt someone else have so much control over him, "find a girl, fall in love," She said, retreating back and smiling, "I am too dangerous for you, Chamgadar."
And with that she left, leaving Neil breathless with the new overpowering feelings and while he sat back, trying to grasp what happened between them, Aarohi walked back to her room, nonchalant and hoping that this was nothing but just a silly moment between them. She was not someone to love and treasure and she could not love anyone, she had once loved two people so much and then they just left, after that, she clearly did not trust anyone with her heart.
Her mobile kept ringing, the same caller and the same stupid cringe.
"Kya problem hai tumari?" She answered the call, whispering but yet angry so as to not wake Akshara, "we are over, Aadi, why can't you understand. Stop calling me, and stop texting."
"Over? Just like that? We had something so special, Aarohi."
"Aditya, listen to me, hum friends the, and I made clear to you that I do not do relationships." Aarohi was fuming now, "And please, get some dignity for yourself and move on, warna mujhe tumhe report karna padega." With that she cut the call and sighed, sitting on the bed, and frustrated.
Why couldn't men just let go of their ego for once and learn that they can be dumped too?
"Aaru?" Akshu asked, yawning, "kuch hua kya? Wapas bukaar?"
Aarohi chuckled, shaking her head, and sneaked in the duvet, "kuch nahi meri Maa," She said as Akshara wrapped her hands around her sister, completely destroying her personal space and Aarohi let her. "Kabhi kabhi mujhe lagta hai ki tu Doctor hai main nahi," Aarohi spoke, eyes shut as Akshara kissed her hair.
"Aur kabhi kabhi mujhe ye lagta hai ki tu badi hai, main nahi," Akshara said, resting her head on her sister's hair, "let down your guard for once, Aaru. I promise," Akshara's soft whisper was echoing aloud in Aarohi's mind, "I promise you will be heard."

The breakfast for the other day was more vibrant now that both Aarohi and Akshara were present and instead of asking Akshara, the Birla's diverted their attention to Aarohi and kept asking her if she was okay, and whether she needed anything. Aarohi who was not used to such attention only nodded, glaring at her sister who kept sniggering and at Abhimanyu, pleading him to help put a halt to this. And like a good jija-ji, Abhimanyu told them to stop pestering the girl and after that they focused on the breakfast and the wedding, and what else was required for the rituals.
"Nishta," Aarohi called out to the girl who was seated across her, besides Neil, "What do you like more, boat riding ya horse riding?"
Nishta and Neil both looked at the girl like she had lost it, the former shrugged, "Par kyu Dii?"
"Arrey, jaana hai na? Gateway of India dekhne?" Aarohi winked at the little girl who now grinned, "toh waha ferry ride hoti hai, horse riding bhi hoti hai, but never mind hum dono kar lenge." She smiled at Nishta who almost squealed in delight, excitedly finishing her meal and nudged Neil to do the same.
"Mujhe bhi jaana hai Gateway of India," Akshara pouted, looking at Abhimanyu who was eating his meal peacefully, "Abhiiiii,"
"Abhi mat karo," Abhimanyu looked at Akshara, shaking his head, "and do not use those cute eyes at me, you promised Maa that we would go ring shopping today."
"Abhiiii, please." Akshara signalled Neil and Nishta he lot to do the same and they both looked cutely at Abhimanyu, "Abhiiii," They said, tilting their heads and pouting and Abhimanyu looked at Aarohi who shrugged, smiling nevertheless.
"I hate you guys," Abhimanyu muttered as he called his mother from across the table, to postpone the ring shopping for the day while Aarohi chuckled, feeling pity for the surgeon who had to now answer a thousand questions as to why.
While that discussion happened, Aarohi looked over at Neil, who was avoiding her gaze from the start, she snapped at him, "Oye, all fine?"
Neil nodded, not looking at her and before Aarohi could enquire further, her phone rang again, her ex not letting live in peace. Neil could see how angry she was once she saw who the caller was but decided to not sneak more in her life, given the effect she had on him yesterday.
"Why don't you go to the ring place on the way back?" Swarna suggested, and Abhimanyu and Akshara agreed, "that way you youngsters can all help choose the rings, yes?"
"Theek hai, Akshara..." Mimi looked at her two girls, "do not over-exert yourself, okay baccha? And Aarohi, make sure you look at your sister, yes?"
The girls nodded, and Aarohi smiled when Akshara gave her a side hug, ready to spend a day togther after a long time but Neil noticed how Aarohi's eyes lost a spark after the simple words their grandmother told them.
"Haan Akshu," Akhilesh said, smiling at the girls, "I know Abhimanyu hoga, but you do not stress yourself a lot, yes? And Aarohi, baccha, dhyaan rakhna apni behen ka. I expect you to be the mature on here, okay?"
"Of course AG," Aarohi smiled back at them, "always."
"Not always," Manish's snarky remark made her clench her jaw but Akshara piped in with a 'Don't worry about us', with her cute smile and the tension vanished.
Neil looked at the girl who was eating her breakfast now, eyes on the plate, while Nishta and Akshara were gushing over what they would do, making Abhimanyu to smile at them.
"Nothing, it's just, I wish I was like her sometimes. I am so jealous of the attention she gets from the entire family"
There was something about Aarohi Goenka which was going to drive him real crazy.
Well good thing was that his brother was heart surgeon.
Maybe he can guide him on why his heart was betraying him.
