29. gift of dance
"Kal ke dance performances ready hai right? I do not want us to make a mess at all!"
"Haan, Nishta meri Maa, hum sab ko performances yaad hai," Parth joined his hands, requesting his sister to chill, "abh tu bhi thoda aaram kar, warna kal thak jayegi."
Nishta frowned, pouting but she dropped down from the chair and looked at Neil who was laying on the lounge chair, a smile on his face ever since the date. "Neil bhaiya, aap ko steps yaad hai right?" She pushed him roughly and Neil tsked, getting up, "you cannot mess up okay?"
"I remember everything, Nishta." Neil twirled his shoulders and was ready to show them his moves, Nishta sitting back to see how Neil's performance. "Music lagao bhabhi," Shefali started the music and Neil danced with his excellent performance and instead of jumping ahead, he missed a step and twirled and collided into the one person he was entangled with since forever.
All of the Birla cousins gasped at Neil who was about to fall but Aarohi held him, wrapping her hands around his waist and Neil shut his eyes, expecting a fall and crash but surprised when he opened his eyes and found Aarohi's cute gaze and her firm grip holding him. "Mr. Birla, aap toh fisalte jaa rahe ho," She raised her eye-brows, smiling cutely at him and he sighed, still hanging mid-air.
"Tu hai hi waisi, koi bhi fisal jayega."
"Koi bhi?"
"Koi bhi,"
Nishta's concerned voice broke their conversation and their trance, and Neil stepped back on his feet while Aarohi greeted the clan with a smile. "Woh, bas aise hi yaha se jaa rahi thi, toh iss chamagadar ko nachte hue dekha toh aa gayi..."
The Birla cousins expected Neil to counter back with his classic chipkali taunt but he only smiled back, his tongue teasing her and Aarohi smiled at him too. If it was not for the sangeet tomorrow, and the wedding that week, they would have given this a thought but right now Shefali held Aarohi's hand, pulling the girl to sit with them.
"Aaru dii, you are performing tomorrow right, we got you the ghungroos too!" Nishta once again asked, "Akshu bhabhi ne kaha tha ki aap pehle classical dance karti thi?"
Aarohi's face fell, the smile she had faltered, her bright eyes lost its light and this time Neil caught the expressions and like always, Aarohi faked a smile to hide her grief. "bohot pehle," She looked at the ground, shaking her head, "usse toh arsa ho gaya. But I am super excited to see you all dance tomorrow. Waise, kaun-kaunse bollywood songs hai?"
While Nishta and Shefali ran her through the entire course of the sangeet ceremony, Neil tilted his head, admiring the girl who could change her facial expressions in a matter of seconds. He hated how good she was in it, so good that she could fool anyone, even him, if he hadn't studied her eyes so well in this past week. Every time Aarohi lies, her eyes seem to be more bright, more interactive and more excited which was her extra effort to cover her sadness, an extra cover of lies and secrets.
Aarohi heard them all, but her mind and her heart lost, once again, this time they were back when she was a kid, dancing with her mother, ghungroo on their legs and heart racing in pure adrenaline.
Once they were back at practicing, Aarohi bid them an aideu and headed towards her room, she was really heavy hearted once again, and no matter what, the thought of her mother missing the wedding of her daughter was pricking her heart. She knew that Akshara was broken too, to not have their parents' with her but Aarohi smiled when she saw Abhimanyu with her, both of them sharing a cup of coffee as they sat on their bed. She did not want to interrupt their sweet moment, and headed out, passing through all the rooms and walking towards the dark lawn.
