I looked up at the wolf I had known for only a day.  His hand was warm at its place on my shoulder. He would help me form now on? Was he planning on staying with me forever? I found my self liking the idea of staying with him.

He was staring down at me his  words hanging in the air between us. I decide to give in to what I was feeling and sunk into his chest.

He was so warm.

He froze for a second, my actions must have been unexpected. I began to move away but he pulled me back against him, his arms encasing me. I could hear his heart beating as he took deep breaths in my hair.

'Keep him here forever' the voice in the back of my head whispered. I wrapped my  arms around him as well, which was a bit hard considering how he had my arms pinned to my side.

I didn't know what to say to him, my actions were a way to convey how I felt. He lifted me onto him
moving his head down to rest in the crock of my neck. "Your scent is so unique" he mumbled. I could feel his lips brush against my skin as he spoke, the feeling was unfamiliar and pleasant but overwhelming.

I pulled away but he secured me in place, his hands firmly around my waist.  What should I say in this moment? I tried to brush a patch of dried blood off his skin, he leaned into my touch.

"You need a bath" I said after the spot didn't fade.

A deep chuckle rocked his chest as he let a hand come to the side of my face "you're one to talk".

I looked down at myself seeing mud, dried deer blood and grass stains all over my dress. I wasn't as dirty as him, it was like he wasn't even trying to stay clean.

" I need to water the plants too, we could go to the river." I said trying to get out of his grip.

He buried his face in my chest "A bath huh?" he finally released me. "Ok"

....................

We both got up and made the short trek to the river, he remembered the way, as expected of a wolf. We went to the section of the river were we had met the day before. The water was calm being just deep enough to submerge myself. I had let my dress fall to the Rocky river side as I entered the water.

Nathaniel was still on the river bank just looking at me when I resurfaced. I realized he had a staring problem.

"Do you plan on coming in" I said swimming towards him. He looked at me smirking like he found something funny.

"I was hoping you'd ask me something like that in another context." He said more to himself than me. He dropped the cloth around his waist " all in due time."

The animal splashed me as he jumped in. He shook as he resurfaced next to me water droplets hitting me in the face.  He was right next to me and for once I couldn't feel heat emanating off him. He was staring at my body through the water.

I splashed him. "Why are you always doing that?" I said swimming away from him.

Did my body look weird to him? I know we didn't look the same, he was hard muscle and tan skin where as I was soft and pale. He was big and I was small, he was tall and I was short. Did I look unnatural in his werewolf eyes?

He swam up behind me almost making water rush into my nose, he pulled me to press against him.

"Cause you're my beautiful mate" he said encircling my waist.

There was that word again, 'Mate' what did it mean?He rubbed his face into the back of my neck, it was very distracting.

"Nathaniel-" he cut me off.

"Call me Nathan" he said quickly as his hands tightened around me.

I turned to face him in confusion. " But that's not your name"  that was apart of his name half of it to be exact.

He laughed at me again, I frowned. "My name is a mouth full and everyone calls me Nathan."

Why would he let people address him by half his name? " Ok Nathan" I said leaning into him. It sounded acceptable coming out my lips.

"Let me give you a nickname." He said moving strands of wet hair from my face.

Covent leader had called me Azula I couldn't imagine anything shorter. "There's nothing you can shorten Azula to. " I said voicing my thoughts without thinking.

He looked like the cat that caught the Canary, a strange analogy to use for a wolf.

"So that's your name " he said grinning.

I felt like splashing him again, I had forgotten my vow to deny him my name. He was far too pleased after tricking the information out of me.

"Azula"he said in a sing song voice. "A distinct name for my one and only mate."

I decided I had to look that word up as soon as possible. I wasn't going to let Nathan laugh at me for something else. I ignored the feelings my name falling from his lips invoked.

"You tricked me." I said quietly to myself .

" It was worth it " he didn't even have the decency to say sorry.

After I splashed him, again, we stayed in the water for awhile. I didn't bother putting on the soiled dress , I just walked home naked. Nathan walked back with me equally naked because he had let the blanket get washed down river.

I picked out a red dress that was almost the shade of my hair and gave Nathan another blanket which he happily took saying it had my scent all over it.

I sighed watching as he watered the many sections of my garden, he insisted he could do it all on his own gathering water from the river and watering each row adequately.

I just watched him in the afternoon sun thinking I was glad he stayed and secretly hoping he would never leave.
