The Witch On The Mountain

Chapter 18

A naked Nathaniel was collared to a wooden pole, a thick chain linking him and his punisher in the open air. His head hung low as he slumped against his only source of support.

A lean blonde walked up to him cell phone in hand snapping pictures as he laughed.

"Cut it out Alexander." Nathaniel growled irritated.

Alexander laughed throwing his head back ignoring Nathaniel's warning , snapping more pictures.

"I'm sending them to Juana. Don't worry I'll crop your dick out. My precious Juana doesn't want to see that." He said typing on his phone, he continued.

"This is your own fault. You disappear for days and then show refusing to give the alpha any explanation. We were looking for you." The blonde said looming over the collared wolf.

"I'll worry about my father later. I have something to tell you." Nathan said into the cold night air.

Alexander abandoned his jovial posture sensing Nathaniel's seriousness. Nathan gave a once over to his surroundings satisfied that no one was listening to their conversation he continued.

" I found my mate." He said after awhile.

Alexander's face broke out into a smile. "About damn time! Took you long enough to find her." His smile faded. " She isn't here so what happened."

Nathan sighed looking off in the direction of the mountain.

"She's a witch from the covent over the summit, she has to do this ritual so she can use her powers-"

"Hence the reason you're so tight lipped." Alexander finished for him. Nathan nodded in reply.

"So what are you going to do, how long til she does this ritual?" Alexander questioned.

"I don't know but before summer. I wanna go see her again soon." He said looking off into the distance.

Alexander, as if sensing his uneasiness , drew Nathan's attention. "What's she like?"

Joy seeped into Nathan's features as he thought back to his mate. "Alexander. She's perfect."

Alexander chuckled. "Im sure she's grate." He said agreeing with Nathan. He couldn't resist adding, " but only Juana's perfect."

Nathan threw one of the few things within his reach at him. Alexander cried out as the small rock hit his midsection. Pride resonated through him as he puffed his out his.

"Azula is the most perfect woman in the world, no competition or comparison." His prideful expression faded.

"The only reason I haven't left yet is because I'm chained to this pole. As soon as I'm off the hook I'm going back to her." He said shaking the dangling metal chain.

Alexander sat in-front of him. "Doing that won't gain you favor with the alpha."

"It's not like I've ever been in his favor."

The weight of Nathaniel's words hung between the two, Alexander again feeling the need to brighten the mood.

He engulfed his best friend's side encircled them shoulder to shoulder. " We're in the same boat Nate, mates that require distance. Oh how heavily our shared burden pains us."

Nathan pouted, "At least you mated Juana, you know she's ok, you talk to her everyday. I don't know if Azula's ok, I have no way of knowing."

Alexander ruffled his hair knowing the chains would restrict him from properly getting revenge. "Cheer up you only have five more days to go before you're free."

The humiliation of being collared set in around the same time the sun's unforgiving heat did. The son of the alpha collared after leaving the pack for six days with no explanation or remorse. Some next in line.

As the days went by as did the hunger build, apart of his humiliation.

On the final day the alpha came, inspecting his son.
"Nathaniel, flesh of my flesh, have you learnt from your punishment." He asked the few spectators bold enough to show their face listening keenly. He was sure others were listening too just hidden from sight.

"Yes father." Nathaniel said keeping his heart beat steady. One shouldn't lie to the alpha, that didn't mean a skilled wolf couldn't.

The spectacle was over quietly passers by moved on. "Free him" the frigid man instructed .

Accountability was held in high regard in the pack. It demonstrated that despite rank, everyone took punishment as equals.

A muscular blonde opened the chains allowing them to fall limp against the wooden pole.

"I hope you manage not to disgrace me for awhile." The alpha said walking away with the man. His son's head fell as he looked at the grassy ground.

Alexander appeared holding out a robe to Nathaniel.

"Cheer up, I got a feast ready for you." He said as Nathan covered himself with the red robe.

Although he had long since accepted his father's nature, his words still stung.

Alexander lead them into his home, a small house a short distance away from the pack house. His table lined with various meats ready for his friend. Nathan took a seat glad to have something to quell his hunger.

" So what's the full deal with your mate?" Alexander asked between bites of food.

Nathan swallowed a particularly big bite before answering. "She has to go through an awakening to be able to use magic. Once she does that she plans on coming back here with me."

Alexander nodded in understanding. " I don't think I can cover for you for more than three days at a time."

Nathan replicated his friends earlier action. " Hopefully you won't have to for too long." He said taking another bite.

" What kind of pack mate would I be if I couldn't help bring our future Luna and Alpha together." Alexander laughed out.

Nathan laughed in reply kicking him under the table. " You're only doing it to brag to your mate."

"Nah, I'm doing it because we're friends." Alexander replied sliding a piece of paper to his friend.

Nathan looked up at him in question. "What's that?"

"All the shit you missed in the last thirteen days." Alexander snorted. " And all the shit you had assigned to you that you haven't done."

Looking over the long list Nathan exhaled. This, then Azula. Glancing at the open window Nathan wondered what Azula was doing in that moment.

Alexander slapped him on the back of the head snapping him out of his thoughts. " Chop Chop let's get to it."

He envisioned her tending to her many herbs in one of the dresses she wore so well, her hair following in the wind, her sweet scent everywhere.
