We walked to the water's edge my eyes having a clarity they lacked before. Nathan too didn't seem to have any problem navigating the dark terrain with the aid of his enhanced senses.
Another ability I had gained?
The water was cold as I washed the grime away. I could fell Nathan's eyes surveying my naked body as he too washed in the river.
I quickly dressed in a clean garment allowing the one ruined by blood to wash down stream. Nathan came up behind me taking a lungful of my scent.
"That's better, just me and you." He said lifting my hair up to expose his mark.
Alexander appeared from the trees, I hadn't felt his presence that time.
"We got rid of all the bodies, it should rain tomorrow that should wash all the blood away ." He said coming over to us.
"Good" Nathan said releasing me.
Alexander extended his hand holding my necklace out to me. "This is yours right?" He said the blackened gem dangling in the moonlight.
I glared down at the reminder of my weakness, the piece of jewelry wasn't truly mine. That witch had given it to me under the guise of a birthday present, but the truth of it had come to light. It was the inhibitor of my magic, the thing that drained my power and left me weak.
I hated the object but it could prove useful. The faint memory of how rear a property it possessed enticing me to take it. I hesitantly took the necklace hoping I wouldn't regret not just destroying it.
" How did you know it was hers." Nathan asked as I pocketed the piece of jewelry.
Alexander scoffed, " You've been talking about her none stop every time we've been alone." He said false annoyance in his tone.
" I didn't think you were listening to me." Nathan chuckled out.
My stomach fluttered, Nathan talked to his friend about me?
" Yeah, you were hard to ignore all love sick."
"Remind me who it was who rubbed their finding their mate before me in my face for almost two years."
"The world should know the blessing that it's been given in my beautiful mate." Alexander declared unashamed.
These two wolves together would be entertaining but chaotic, I could feel it. We paused as we met the other two men outside my cabin.
Nathan didn't shrink as much into himself this time but his demeanor change was still noticeable.
" Your mate did a number on those witches." He said his words obviously meant for Nathan.
" Nothing they didn't deserve, they tried to kill her." Nathan said quick to my defense.
His gaze felt hot against my skin like he was trying to burn fear into me, I wanted to strike out violently and hurt him.
"We'll have to find out the full extent of her power once we're back on our own land." He said his eyes still wondering over my body.
I decided I hated this man, whoever he was.
Nathan growled his usual demeanor returning as he moved to shield me from prying eyes. " Is that all father?"
That man was his father?!
I looked between the two in disbelief. Nathan fuming , his father unaffected.
" I'll ignore your continued insubordination, apparently you haven't learnt from the last time you challenged me." Nathan's shoulder dropped just a little at his fathers cold words.
He turned to Alexander. " Is everything in order?" Alexander nodded, " yes alpha."
" We'll depart then." Nathan's father said, all three men heading into the forest.
They remerged in wolf form, I cried out in surprise as Nathan lifted me into him arms.
" You can't keep up with us." He said offering an explanation. I caressed my face into his chest, I liked being in his arms. They were warm and strong as they allowed me to be surrounded by him. He looked down at me as if knowing I enjoyed not having to walk.
With a glance at the wolves they all took off.
He was right. The trees blurred as we moved through the forest, my hair flowing in the wind as the air around us shifted as we passed by.
The trek passed quickly, in no time we were over the mountain. The sun was peaking over the horizon as we arrived at the edge of a clearing. Nathan placed me on my feet as the men emerged from the forest all dressed and in human form.
Nathan's father spoke first. "Get her settled, we'll talk after I return this weekend."
Nathan nodded in acknowledgment, with that his father left. I could see the tension that he held around his father slowly fade.
The other older man came over to us, his eyes looking me over briefly. A smile on his lips as he raised a hand to Nathan's shoulder.
"I'm happy that you found her, she's lovely." He said glancing at me.
Nathan beamed at him. "Thanks Arthur, it means a lot coming from you." Patting the arm that laid on his shoulder.
He returned to Alexander ruffling his hair. " I haven't seen you lately, your mother wants you to come over for dinner Sunday after she returns."
Alexander grimaced and shuffled out of his hold. " Yeah I'll be there."
I assumed the older man was Alexander's father. They held the same hair and eye color but Alexander lacked his father's tall bulky frame.
He turned to us again. "You too Nathan, I expect you and your mate to be there."
I looked up at Nathan in question as he glanced at me taking my hand as he agreed. " Well be there."
" If they can pry themselves away from each other." Alexander said slyly.
Nathan turned red looking away at nothing in particular.
Alexander's father, Arthur, chuckled "I'm sure they won't be as bad as you and Juana were." He patted his son's back walking away.
"I'm going home to your mother." He says disappearing in the direction of the distant houses.
"And he criticizes me." Alexander mumbled turning to us, his sly smile returned.
The two friends shared a look as if having a conversation I wasn't aware of. I pulled at Nathan's hand not likening the feeling that I was missing something.
"Have fun." Alexander said waving as he too walked away.
Nathan laughed "I plan to."
I showed obvious confusion as he looked down at me, instead of offering an explanation he kissed my forehead.
"Let's go." He mumbled pulling me to walk along side him.
