Nathan reached forward piling food on my plate, Alexander's father did the same to his mate. She waited patiently as he carved the ham and set pieces before her.
Alexander and his brother took food for themselves piling their plates with mostly meat. Infact they all took mostly meat, I suspected the sides were mostly for show.
"That's enough." I said as Nathan went to take another piece of meat from the table.
He smiled down at me. "Ok baby"
I blushed looking away quickly.
'Baby'
He chuckled as he started piling food on his own plate. Throughout the meal there was light conversation. Nathan for once wasn't attacking his food like it would disappear. I suspected that had something to do with Alexander's mother.
The meal progressed quickly the family relocating to the living room. Aiden turning the television on in the background.
Alexander's father reached out slapping his mate's rear as she walked by. " Arthur." She chastised slapping his shoulder as she continued clearing the table.
"Their is only so much one wolf should know about his parents." Alexander said helping his mother.
"There's only so much a mother should know about her pup." She was quick to counter.
Alexander huffed folding his arms as he came over to where Nathan and I sat pressed against each other on a nearby love seat.
"I remember why I haven't been here in awhile ." He grumbled resting his hands on his hips. "Let's go lover boy."
Nathan chuckled raising an eyebrow. "Lover boy?" He got up taking me with him.
Alexander nodded as he led us out the house. Aiden was trailing behind us as we entered the trees. " I didn't invite you." Alexander turned to his brother.
"I'm not here for you." He said rolling his eyes turning his attention to Nathan. "Will you spar with me Nate?"
Looking at him I could see the resemblance he shared with his mother. Nathan released my hand. "Oh? You're up for another lost this quick?"
I watched as the pair laughed and talked with each other as they fought each time Nathan clearly winning. Aiden didn't seem to stand a chance, I suspected Nathan was holding back as they fought.
As I watched him evade yet another blow Alexander appeared next to me an arm's length away. His presence didn't bother me like other people's did.
"Nathan's the strongest wolf in the pack." Alexander said following my eyes.
I nodded turning to look at him. "I'm sorry about my brother, but your scent really is overwhelming."
Was it? I lacked the senses to notice. An unbothered Nathan appeared next to us a sulking Aiden covered in dirty going in the direction of his parent's home. Their spar was a short one.
" I think recent events enhanced certain aspects of her scent. The undertones are a lot more potent now." Nathan said leaning against the slanted tree with me. He ran his nose along my exposed jugular for good measure.
How come he hadn't told me my scent had changed.
" Well whatever happened is gonna lead to questions." Alexander said sitting across from us on another tilted tree. Why were there so many tilted trees here? " You have taken that into consideration right?"
"No one here would question me." Nathan said confidently.
"That's true for everyone except your father."
I looked between the two wolves contemplating.
"I'll deal with him if it come to that." Nathan said looking off into the distance. I grabbed his hand. The topic of his father was seemingly touchy.
" He won't take evasion as an answer form you this time, you need to have a plan." Nathan's head fell.
"Or you could kick his ass and take his place." Alexander joked breaking the tension in the air.
Nathan laughed dryly. "I lost horribly last time." He turned to me. "But that's how I found you so I'm glad."
I blinked in confusion. "What?"
Both he and Alexander laughed at me, I wanted to smack them. Alexander spoke first.
" Once Nathan beats his father, as both human and wolf, he'll become alpha. The title of leader goes to the strongest."
" That day I found you I had challenged my father and lost. The anger I felt at not being able to beat him and the shame of being humiliated made me lose control. My wolf took over and led me to you." Nathan explained smiling down at me.
"The bastard's been mooning about finding you since I found my mate." Alexander said teasingly.
"Tough talk coming form the guy that can't beat me in a fight."
"Hey! You're from two lines of alphas you have the advantage. If this was before our trail we would be even Steven!" Alexander yelled
"You've been milking that excuse for years! Get over it."
"Trial?" I asked trying to join the conversation. They both redirected their attention to me, Alexander spoke first.
"In the pack at 15, right before a wolf is of mating age, we go on a six mouth journey in the wilderness. Failure or success shapes the kind of wolf you'll become."
"Alexander was born two weeks after me, I went during the winter he went during spring. He's convinced the harsher conditions made me stronger." Nathan said as if it was the most absurd thing he'd ever heard.
"It did! You came back bulky and hyper in tune with your wolf." Alexander flexed his arms in what I assumed was an impression of Nathan. It wasn't a very good one.
"You're faster than me, take that win and move on." Nathan gave in waving his friend away. "Aiden should be going on his in a few months." He mumbled looking in the direction the younger wolf had disappeared in.
"Yeah, he's a strong wolf. He'll conquer the beast within" Alexander added after awhile.
Speaking of the beast within I looked up at Nathan clutching his arm close to my chest. We'd discussed my new found power and knowledge, we needed to gage how deeply they really sank. For that we'd enlist the help of Alexander, Nathan's most trusted person besides myself.
"We wanted to tell you something." Nathan said after looking down at me. He read my actions well.
'An attentive wolf'
Alexander paused his strides turning back to us. "Let's go to my place."
