Nathaniel held me under the moon for the long while it took my tears to dry. Stroking my back, soothing me. As I calmed I enjoyed the sound of his heartbeat.
"What happened?" He asked after a long while.
We sat at the edge of the bloody alter, Nathan had lifted me and settled us away from the massacre. I leaned into him ignoring the blood that painted his chest, using his muscle as pillow.
"My awakening was a never a true event, only a guise to kill me." I looked up at him. "They tried to take my magic but I got rid of them. This covent, the only people before you who I thought were somewhat acting in my best interest betrayed me from the start."
I awaited his reaction, again no disgust or fear was evident in his gaze. "I killed them. One by one after they plunged a dagger through my heart."
His hold tightened around my waist as he tried to bury himself further into my neck. "Good. They deserved every ounce of pain you gave them."
I exhaled into him, he was a loyal wolf, he would never question my judgement.
"How did you find me?" The question had been on my mind since he appeared.
My question seemed to draw all his attention.
"I felt a searing pain in my chest, it was so intense I felt like I was dying. I knew it had to mean you were in danger, I gave my wolf control and it led me to you." He said meeting my eyes.
I returned to bury my face in his muscle, he must have felt when Greta had killed me. Did I truly die? I must have, it felt like I did. What was that place? Who was that man? My father?
My mind raced with the overwhelming thoughts as it tried to comprehend what exactly happened to me.
" My wolf was telling me to return to you sooner, mark you to form a stronger bond. Ensure we would know exactly what state you were in." His words forced my thoughts away.
His jaw was set in a hard line, self disappointment evident. He couldn't possibly be blaming himself for what happened this wasn't his fault, it was mine because of my blind stupidity. I kissed his check becoming his center of attention once again.
" There's no way you could have known what was going to happen. I was in that cabin twelve years and didn't suspect their plan." I said trying to pacify him.
In retrospect I should have suspected something wasn't adding up at the way that woman treated me. Leaving me secluded at such a young age, only doing the minimum needed for my survival.
I was foolish for not at least suspecting something was wrong.
No I wasn't foolish, I was blind. Desperate for their love, acceptance and validation. Yearning for people to call my own.
I shifted in Nathan's lap, I was desperate for a connection. It left me susceptible to being used.
"My instincts were telling me not to leave you here and I ignored them. I'm your mate I should have been here to protect you." My words hadn't had their desired effect.
I caressed his face taking in his handsome features. I wanted to tell him I no longer needed a protector, that with my power I could take on any adversary. But the other part of me gushed at the thought of him sheltering me from the challenges of the world.
I had also found someone to have a connection with, to call my own.
"Their dead it doesn't matter." I mumbled pushing his hair back. I held him by his locks forcing him to stop whatever dilemma going on in his mind.
"I have my power, my enemies are gone. We can be together now." I said awaiting his reaction.
A slow smile overtook his features. " Yeah, ." I liked to think this smile was reserved for me alone.
He pushed aside the fabric of my dress exposing my where my shoulder and neck met. The skin unmarred with blood, he placed a kiss along the area.
"I wanted to mark you the moment I met you, I won't waste anymore time." He waited his teeth hovering above my skin, asking for permission. I nodded.
"Make me yours Nathaniel." I said encasing him.
He took the confirmation and sunk his teeth into me.
My grip tightened around him as pain resonated through me, Nathan held me so I couldn't move forcing me to endure it. His teeth sunk deeper, feeling as if it hit bone, I whimpered at the sensation.
Then something unexpected happened, the pain faded away allowing my body to fill with pleasure. Tingles running up my spine, a moan escaped me.
The feeling of him connecting with me was the most pleasurable sensation I had ever felt.
I felt him harden underneath me as I tried desperately to lengthen the feeling. Slowly his teeth retracted from my skin, his tongue licking the wound.
I attacked his lips the moment they left my skin, my body calling out for him. He responded laying me in the bed on the grass, the low light of the distant fire casting shadows around us.
He settled himself firm against me, the fabric of my dress doing nothing to hide my modesty. I moaned as he kissed his mark, ecstasy flooding me.
He was on me but I wanted him inside me. I lifted my hips trying to create friction. His hand slipping under my dress to caress my breast as he rocked against me. He paused, gaze snapping into the dark forest.
I turned my gaze to mimic his 'three wolves approaching from the north.' How did I know that?
I held on to Nathan's fore arm as the three wolves exited the dense tree. I could barely make out their features, but Nathan's lack of hostility led me to believe he knew them.
Nathan rose from between my parted legs shielding me from the eyes of the newcomers. I stood hiding behind him, my arm pressed against his back.
I was curious as to who these people were, the moon light not helping to reveal there appearance. The one in the middle spoke.
"In light of recent developments your latest actions make more sense." He said his voice ringing out into the night air.
