I rubbed Nathan's head as we tended to the herbs, he was uncertain in his pruning, I couldn't risk him taking apart my precious plants.

" I think I'm getting the hang of it" he said beaming at the slightly mangled plant before him. He had done a sub par job but at least it was better than the others he had attempted.

"You're slowly making progress." I said refocusing on my task, taking a moment to admire a bashful Nathan. The basket was almost full, the assortment of herbs would have to be jarred and preserved.

Nathan deposited the tool into the basket encircling my waist as he kissed my neck. " I'll stick to hunting, this is more your thing." He said rubbing his nose along the back of my neck.

"I though you were happy to learn." I said dropping the last piece of rosemary into the basket.

" I'm happy to do anything with you."

I fought a smile as warmth seeped through my body. I turned to him his face marred with splotches of dirt.

"We should go to the river." I said brushing speckles from his face, he planted a stray kiss to my inner wrist.

" Yeah, these weeds are muddling your scent." He said smiling. I ignored the impulse to correct him on insulting my plants, after all I took pride in my accomplished assortment of flora.

....................

I laid submerged at the water's edge watching Nathan subdue yet another fish. He was evidently efficient in water as well, that fish made six if I wasn't mistaken.

He walked over to me dropping the fish in the near by pile. I would miss admiring his glistening physique as he dove to catch his swimming prey.

He sank next to me in the shallow river side pool. " There's your scent" he mumbled as he kissed my forehead.

"What do I smell like?" my curiosity had been bubbling at his obsession with my 'weird scent'.

He lifted me to sit on him lap him head resting on my shoulder. " Your scent is what I imagine pure temptation would smell like." That wasn't much of an explanation.

He cupped the swells of my chest under the water, his breath escaped in a harsh exhale. I was distracted as his warm hand contrasted the with the cool river water.

"On the surface you smell so clean, like the forest at sunrise while the flowers are in full bloom." He squeezed my chest invoking a weird sensation. " but underneath you smell like pure fine wood that's been set in fire for a smoky ashen fragrance. Unlike anyone's I've ever met."

He pulled away and I turned to face him " all those things combined leaves you with a scent unlike any other, a scent I find so enthralling."

I looked down at him wrapping my legs around his waist the water shielding our bodies.

The mystery of the scent he seemed so obsessed with didn't sound very appealing. It sounded like too many things rolled into one, like it wouldn't work all out together.

"You find all those things put together appealing?" I mumbled under my breath, but with his enhanced senses he heard me. He didn't hesitate to reply.

"Yes." His reply sounded strangled as he looked back at me. My necklace dangled between us, the sound of rushing water dull behind us.

As I brought him flat against me, I could see something shift behind his eyes. Before I would speak, almost in slow motion, he latched on to my chest, his teeth grazing my skin.

I gasped, throwing my head back to the sky. Nathan's grip fell to my back side his hold tight, he switched his mouth to the other side as I tangled an arm in his wet black locks.

What was he doing? What's happening?

I felt something hot pressed against me.

The sun against my skin, his lips sucking at my flesh, his hands gripping me in that weirdly enjoyable way. The sensations, the stimulation.

I felt like I was on fire.

He moved an arm to the front, his hand lowering to between my parted legs.

Nathan pulled away suddenly, breathing heavily. I looked down at him in question.

Why did he stop.

" If we do this I definitely won't be able to leave." He said his chest rising and falling.

My pleasure was interrupted by his words, I only had one day left with him. My mood fell, I would be alone again, I was trying to ignore the fact that he would be leaving so soon.

I stood getting off him, he looked up at me from his sitting position. The sounds of nature came rushing back as I was ripped from my state of euphoria.

That's right just one more day then it would be back to toiling away in the mud no Nathan to keep me company.

Nathan buried his nose between my legs, I turned red pushing him away scrambling to step ashore. Nathan chuckled as he stood to join me.

"I could smell your anxiety." He said trying to hug me, I evaded his embrace. His chuckle became a full blown laugh.

I threw a fish at him as I went to retrieve my dress. I felt queasy, my brain muddled at all the things that took place in the short span of time.

Without congestive thought my eyes focused on his appendage, it had grown. Fighting against the wind, apex curving upwards slightly it looked intimidating. Was that the warm thing I felt earlier? I noticed it was the part of his body that vastly contrasted my own in its respective area.

My mind went blank as he covered himself with the blanket. It was unnatural to look at even covered, as if the fabric made it unseen. I hadn't realized but Nathan was right before me, all half a dozen fish slung over his shoulder.

I broke gaze with it and looked up at Nathan's face. He opened his mouth to say something but I beat him to it.

"Be quiet" I grumbled putting on my dress. I could sense he was planning to say something I wouldn't like.

He laughed petting my head like I was the wolf and he was the witch.
