"What's it like being in a pack?" My question resonated in the small room.
He sat up in the chair and stopped gobbling away at the apples. " I love my pack, they're my family." He declared his head held high.
I remained silent as I'd never had a family, he continued.
" Wolves draw strength from each other, each individual making everyone in the whole stronger. We work together, live together , fight together and would die for each other." He said proudly.
Huh, Maybe I should have been born a werewolf. I couldn't say if my covent would do any of those things for me. I stared into a discolored apple core contemplating.
Nathan pulled me towards him his face resting on my stomach as he looked up at me. " You smell anxious what is it?"
' That we wished we had someone who we could be proud of like you'
" Do you know everyone in you're pack?" I asked already expecting his reply.
" Yes." He replied without hesitation.
"How many members are there?" Again his reply was almost instant.
" A little over a hundred." He said still looking up at me. I didn't hide my surprise, I didn't expect his pack to be so large.
So a over a hundred people cared for Nathan, I could see why. I entangled my fingers in his black locks. It felt similar to his wolf's fur, it was almost the same color as well.
'He's gonna leave us to go back to them' the voice was talkative today.
He promised to help me, was that a lie. Looking down at his eyes that always seemed to gravitate towards me I decided he wouldn't lie to me so brazenly. He didn't seem that cruel to me.
I sighed putting my other hand in his hair, he pulled me down to his lap. The sound of rain was loud in the silence, a clap of thunder disrupted the pitter patter.
" Are you going to leave me" the words barely escaped me. I was afraid to look at him as I waited for a reply. He cupped my face forcing me to look at him.
" I would never leave you" his gaze was intense with his declaration. The fire had returned to his gaze, it was kind of scary the way his eyes peered into my soul.
Our noses were almost touching, " I was planning on taking you back with me, to my pack." He said his eyes searching mine.
Silence fell between us as he awaited my reply. He wanted me to go with him? To become a part of his family?
"But I'm not a wolf" I said biting my lip anxiously.
"It doesn't matter you're my mate." He said still searching my eyes.
I wanted to stay with him, he made me feel better than I had felt in..... he made me feel better than I had ever felt. But I couldn't leave the covent, not until I got my power.
" I can't" I said without thinking.
Nathan's shoulders slumped and his head fell. I had disappointed him, I quickly elaborated.
" Not right now I have to have my awakening first, I need my covent to do it, I can't do it on my own." I said unable to see his reaction, my words coming out jumbled.
His eyes hadn't returned to mine. " When is your awakening? " he asked softly.
"Before the spring ends" I answered awaiting his reaction. I'm sure I was ready, I could feel it in my bones.
"So within the next two months" he stated more than questioned, I replied anyways.
"Yeah" he finally looked at me again, His eyes not holding their usual merit.
" I imagined I would meet my mate and whisk her away to my pack. Then we would live happily for the rest of our lives together ." He said rubbing a thumb on my cheek. " But I understand your answer, you've been working towards this moment your whole life."
He wasn't upset with me, that was good.
" I can't blame you for wanting to be stronger, I shouldn't have expected you to drop everything to come with me."
"The truth is I would drop everything for you." I should have been ashamed but I wasn't.
A beaming smile over took his face, his checks coloring a little. He buried his face in my chest, his body heat causing a weird sensation to shoot through me.
"That makes me glad" he mumbled smiling to himself. I smiled too, I had given him the right answer.
" I've waited my whole life for you I can wait a few more weeks. " he rubbed his face in my chest before looking up at me. Our faces were inches apart a weird tension developed between us.
Another clap of thunder faded in the background.
" Can I kiss you" he said the tension rising.
I stared at him in question, what was a kiss? Yet another word I didn't know the meaning of. ' Say yes' the voice said.
"Yes" I replied taking the instruction of the voice.
He leaned into me the distance between us gradually decreased. What would he do next? He looked me over one more time before his lips brushed mine. He closed his eyes relaxing his hold on me.
The sensation that shot through me was alien but pleasurable, I closed my eyes savoring the feeling. He pulled away looking to see my reaction. I wanted him to do it again.
" More" I said pulling his lips back to mine.
He smiled as his lips touched mine again, this time I did as he did moving my lips more against his. He pulled me down unto him, the small wooden chair creaking under our combine weight.
I couldn't breath, I drew back for air. He quickly began trailing his lips against my neck leaving tingles along my skin with each peck. I tried to catch my breath but an unknown sound escaped me.
Nathan's grip tightened around me as he pushed my dress aside to reveal my shoulder, there too he left light kisses.
I decided I liked kisses.
