Now reading as Chris's POV

After signing the documents, we got back home. Mom asked Sophia to get her a glass of water from the kitchen, and she left. I noticed my brother having a strange conversation with Yulan.

Sophia came back with the glass and placed it on the table. Mom was just about to grab it when Fredrick stopped her.

"Mom, I'd love to speak with you."
He sat next to her on the couch.
I got curious yet a little disturbed as to why he wanted to speak with her.

Mom changed positions and asked him to speak.
Fredrick placed a hand on hers and said, "Would it be too soon if we get the engagement party in one week?"

Wait! What?.

Immediately, I protested against it; however, Fredrick persuaded Mom to think otherwise.
He manipulated everything that she accepted to get us engaged.

I can't let this happen.
I was this close to telling Mom the truth, but the pretence we started is gradually turning into a nightmare.

I walked Mom to her room, she closed the door, and I turned to spot Fredrick walking into Yulan's bedroom.

Do I need to be worried?

I went after him and listened standing outside Yulan's bedroom door.
Fredrick conveyed his happiness, and Yulan seemed to share in hers too.

I got to find out that whatever happened downstairs had its paws written on it.
Fredrick swore to make Sophia his, and Yulan accepted to help him achieve his dream.

I was right to be worried.
My brother can never be trusted. I turned around and left before they found me.

Am I going to let them win?

The next morning, preparations for the engagement started. Mom had the catering services come home and begin a full-course meal.

I went outside when Fredrick called me back.

He walked down and informed mom wanted to go over to the clothing store and get a tux for the day with the ladies.
And as much as I hate faking being the happy groom, I might get a chance to kidnap Sophia even if it's just for an hour.

I walked in with them. Sophia and Yulan came down together. Mom instructed us to go to the store; she related mostly to the ladies.
We all came outside. Fredrick wanted us to use his car; however, I used mine instead.

I drove to the Millard shopping mall.

Fredrick held onto Sophia, and they both walked in. I went after them, and trust me, I paid no attention to Yulan.

Yulan noticed that and rolled her eyes.

Fredrick suggested we go with the ladies to get some clothes sampled.
I shook my head and followed quietly.

We walked into a shop, and a man walked them into the showroom to change.
I looked around, and Sophia walked out in a red dress. She lowered her gaze, and I got up, amazed by her beauty.

I immediately forgot everyone else, including Yulan. I came before her, and she lowered her gaze.
I smiled and gently stroked her hair back.
Yulan finds that infuriating, and so did my brother.

The shop attendant came and complimented my taste in women.
I grinned, and she asked if Sophia would be getting the dress.
She nods, and Fredrick immediately flares up.

"Oh hell no,"
He screamed.
We all looked at him while raging close, he pushed me aside and said Sophia wouldn't be getting the dress.

Sophia hissed and walked away.
He sees that and turns to lash his wrath on me

"How dare you flirt with my wife?"
He teethed.
I laughed and made him understand that Sophia isn't his wife.

We both looked back when Sophia walked past. She held a shopping bag, and I spotted the same dress Fredrick had asked her not to get.

He's not going to like this when he finds out.
