It was finally the day of the engagement. A week later, I walked down to join the guests. My brother, however, had his eyes fixed on Sophia's door. I saw the hunger in his eyes, wanting to be the first person to see her coming.
Mom called me over to meet some of the guests. I went, and Sophia walked out of her room, and everyone, including myself, stared as she walked down.
Fredrick grinned and walked to meet her.
He was unnecessarily being a gentleman, which I don't trust.
Yulan came out too. Mom asked me to go over to the podium with my brother while she gets the ring.
Fredrick and I walked there, meeting our brides.
Yulan grinned and acted cutely. I looked away, and it fell on Sophia's beautiful face.
I lowered my gaze down at the ground and looked at my brother. Hadn't he seen the dress?
It was as if he read my mind. Immediately, the smile on his face disappeared; he tilted his head down and faced me.
I winked, and that got him furious.
"You'll pay for this,"
He whispered and looked away.
Mom came with the rings. She gave Fredrick and me a box and asked us to fix the rings on our bride's fingers.
I opened the box. Fredrick was about to open his when the light went off.
Mom asked us not to panic and sent the waiters to get the lights fixed.
We waited for the light to come on.
Fredrick was so anxious to get engaged to his ex-wife. He suggested everyone bring out their phones and switch on their flashlight.
That wasn't a bad plan; however, I can't possibly let him get engaged right.
I shifted a little to him. He pulled out the ring from the box, and when he tried to put the ring on Sophia's fingers, I slapped it out of his hand; it fell, and I also had mine tossed away too.
Frederick turned and faced me with anger. I maneuvered my way and made it look like Yulan was the person who had this ring thrown.
The lights came on.
Fredrick lifted his hands to whack me rather than meet Yulan before him.
"You?" He looked and found me afar.
Mom came and asked what happened. Fredrick ran down after explaining that Yulan accidentally bumped into him and the ring flew out of his hand.
Sophia looked at me. We spoke with our eyes, and she immediately knew what I did.
She grinned and put on a serious face.
Mom asked me to go down and help my brother. I thought, why not? If I find the ring before he does, I'm going to toss it so far he never sees it again.
I searched for the ring with him.
Fredrick complained while searching for it.
I got a place, and I found something underneath the curtains. I pulled it up, and there it was.
I did have the idea of getting it thrown away; however, switching the rings will do.
I turned around, and no one seemed to look my way. Quickly, I took the ring and swiped the one I was to give to Yulan to him, and I took his ring and fixed it inside my ring box.
"I found it,"
I cried out.
Fredrick rushed and took it from me. He asked Mom to start the process that he wasn't going to let anyone take his changes.
He looked at me while saying that.
I laughed a little and went up with him.
Sophia squeezed her face when Mom asked Fredrick to put the ring on her finger.
He did that without hesitation, and it fitted just faultlessly.
My dear brother has no clue; I am with his ring, and the one he engaged Sophia with was mine.
I think there has been a change of plans.
Yulan won't be getting married to me, but my brother and I will get the one I want.
Let the countdown begin.
