CHAPTER 7 - CURSED.

Frederick tore the test results before her eyes and pushed her outside like a commoner.

“Frederick, please listen to me!” She yelled standing outside.

Frederick walked over to his room without uttering a single word.

I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I looked back and noticed that I was only daydreaming.

“What a life?” I thought.

“My dear, are you okay? You look lost in thought.” Father asked worriedly.

“I’m fine Father, don't worry about me.” I answered walking to my bedroom.

Mr. Rohit, Father’s financial secretary, came in and greeted him.

“Good morning Mr. Ricardo, Good morning Mrs. Sophia.”

Father walked him to the sofa.

“Good morning Mr. Rohit, what's wrong? Father inquired, after seeing the look on his face.

“I don't know how to say this, but a sum of two million dollars was withdrawn from the company's account.” Mr. Rohit announced.

“By whom?”  Dad demanded to know the truth.

“By your son sir!” He conceded the truth to us.

Dad turned and shouted, “Frederick! Get your ass down here. Right now!”

Frederick ran downstairs on hearing his Father’s harsh tone.

“Yes Father, what's going on?” He asked.

“It just came to my notice that a sum of two million dollars was withdrawn from the company by you. You have five seconds to start explaining yourself.” Dad walked  away from Mr. Rohit.

We were just about to hear Frederick’s explanation when Rina stunted in, holding onto an elderly lady, ambling beside her.

“Be careful.” She grabbed the lady's hand.

Father turned around and got the shock of his life.

“Rosie! Is that you?” He exclaimed.

A shocking revelation unraveled as Ricardo called out the name with no doubt.

“Rick? Ricardo?” Her mind seemed to be a little hazy as she tried to recall.

“Do you know her, Father? Because I don't recall telling you anything about Rina's mother.” Frederick came to him.

Ricardo froze, concealing the truth that the mother of the woman whom his son is allegedly in love with, is the same woman that destroyed his marriage years back.

“She's an old friend.” He said.

All of a sudden, Father became restless. He quickly fastened the buttons of his shirt.

“Father!” I rushed to his aid.

Rina smirked at the scene and left.

She pushed her mom onto the bed and said, “ So you forgot everyone except your lover, Ricardo.”

Rosie instantly fixed her gaze up the minute she heard his name.

“Where is Rick?” She asked.

Rina gave no answer and zoomed out of the bedroom, aggravated by her Mother’s forgetful condition. We accidentally bumped into each other.

“Look where you're going!” I said, minding my eyes from meeting hers.

“Ugh! Don't you dare irritate me.” She angrily said and strolled downstairs.

( Father's room.)

I went up to Father’s bedroom. He saw me walking in and trying to hide Mother's photo away from him as he slept off looking at it.

He jolted up from sleep.

"I know how much you miss Mother.” I sat next to him.

“You're right. I do miss my wife so much, but everything is my fault.” He replied.

“What do you mean? What's going on? I feel you're hiding something from me.” I questioned.

He sat up to talk to me when Frederick walked into the room.

“Hello Dad, are you okay?” He asked.

“Do you even care?” Dad spoke back to him.

“I don't understand.” Frederick said, slowly closing the distance between them.

“So tell me, what do you want?” Father asked.

“Nothing Father, I just came to check up on you.” Frederick anxiously rubbed his neck and left.

Father and I looked at each other. We both knew something was wrong.

(Frederick's bedroom.)

Rina anxiously waited for his return, and the second his feet stepped in, she said, “So, what happened?”

“I couldn't bring myself to tell him.” He said.

Rina immediately got angry.

“What the hell do you mean you couldn't bring yourself to tell him? Are you stupid?” She was vexed, and her pissed-off mood aggravated him.

He let out a stern warning, “Listen carefully, I know I love you, but don't even think of insulting me. I won’t condone that.”

He turned his back on her and left the room.

“Incompetent fool.” Rina smacked her tongue and turned her face away.

That same day, I strolled downstairs and bumped into Chris on the way.

“Hello Sophia, are you okay?” He found my hands shaking.

“What happened this time? What did Rina do?” He interrogated slowly, getting angry.

A minute after telling him what had transpired in his absence, he placed his hands on my shoulder and whispered to my ears, “Can we go for a long drive?”

“What?” I pushed him away.

“What? Don't even give me that look, and besides, I need some time out after spending a whole day at the police station.” He brought out his car keys.

I asked why he had visited the police station, and he told me that he had gone to visit the man that attacked me the other day.

I don't know, but I felt like Rina was responsible for what happened the other day. I had this hunch that her presence would not yield anything good, and that it would only be a danger for us all. Come to think of it, Chris is right. A long drive would calm my nerves a bit.
