THE DIGITAL CLOCK SITTING ON MY NIGHTSTAND ANNOUNCED AN unexpected set of numbers. I threw my head back in frustration. I'd slept away half a week. Half a week I could have spent doing something worth my time and patience.
When I stood up, the images from that night's awake dream rushed through my head. It had been almost a week and I still couldn't control the memories. I let out an extensive string of profanities escape from my mouth, cursing the day I'd allowed these intense emotions take over my heart, and not only that but drill a hole inside of any coherency I had, leaving me as a fool.
I walked to the bathroom, instantly turning on the faucet. I splashed some water on my face, attempting to wash off any remains of tiredness decorating my expressions. The person in the mirror was a stranger, with hair that looked like a haystack and red eyes, too hectic for my liking.
Not only was my appearance annoying me to the last vein, but my decisions for the past week were also doing that job for me. I had no recollection of any day aside from today. Any day from Monday to Friday was nothing but a blur.
I'd spent seven days of my life trapped inside dream after dream, hopeless to ever find an answer to my dispute with my emotions regarding Alex. I hadn't seen his angelic face in so long I felt like I would see a major difference when I actually did. This time I was being deprived of his spotless presence.
Just as my mind had no idea what to do for what was the rest of the day, or with my life in general, a faint knock made its way to my ears. I felt my heart drop to my stomach excitedly. Could it be the culprit of my sleepless nights knocking on my door? I decided to get an answer to that question by twisting the doorknob.
Embarrassed, I flung the door open, and in my doorway stood probably the most unexpected person. With her wavy caramel-colored hair, Riley was standing outside. I pursed my lips, smiling at the person in front of me.
''Hi, I called you several times to tell you I was dropping by for a visit'' Was the first thing that came out of her mouth. I knitted my eyebrows together at first, and then I widened my eyes at myself.
''I am so sorry, Riley. I haven't checked my phone in days, literally. It's just been... a tough week'' Did it even feel like a week anymore? She shook her head in an understanding manner to which I was thankful.
''It's okay. Can I come in? I just have a couple of things to tell you'' She smiled, fiddling with the small purse she carried with her. I nodded and moved to the side so she could walk in. I closed the door and walked to the couch where Riley was already sitting.
