HAD I MADE A MISTAKE BY ASKING HIM TO NOT TALK ABOUT WHAT happened? Would pushing him away solve my problems? Or would it just make them bigger? I could only wonder since the days seemed to pass without any particular happenings.
''Still thinking about your talk with Alex?'' Riley asked, snapping me out of whatever trance I'd been inducted into now. I looked in front of me and nodded at her question.
''I just don't know what came over him'' I explained, feeling the confusion coursing through my veins. She sighed, reaching for my hand across the table.
''Maybe you should just concentrate on what's really important'' This time I could agree with her. We both sat at a small table outside John Rooney's office and I could've not been more nervous than I was. My foot constantly tapped against the floor, as I took deep heavy sighs.
The place had a modern decoration adapted to it. The colors were all variations of grey, the walls, the small furniture accommodated in the corner, and even the desk where his secretary sat behind. Though I was too nervous to study the place detail by detail.
''Mrs. Turner, he's ready to see you'' A female voice belonging to the secretary made me widen my eyes. I stood up and gave her a subtle look.
''Oh, I'm not Mrs. Turner'' I said politely and she apologized, to which I responded with a soft smile before walking inside. I could feel Riley holding in her laughter behind me.
I flung the door open, expecting to see the same colors I did outside. And I was correct. My first sight was his back turned to me. He shifted his body in my direction once the noise of the door opening reached his ears. A wide grin was spread across his face.
''Good morning, Elaine'' He greeted, walking over to me. I smiled and accepted his hand. He pulled the additional chair from his desk in my direction, to which I thanked him.
Once I was seated he did the same. I looked around the large-sized office, decorated with all sorts of glass objects around. Very sophisticated pieces decorating his bookshelf, as well as pictures of different lengths and widths framed around a certain black material.
''I'd like to apologize if our appointment was set too early, I can see you're still tired'' He spoke up, starting with something to set the alight mood.
''Don't worry, it's completely fine'' I assured him and as a response, he chuckled. Then he proceeded to stack some papers and place them on his right side, now focusing his full attention on me.
