Insatiable
AT A LOSS OF WORDS, I COULD ONLY STARE AT THE BRIGHT SCREEN facing me. Feeling her intense gaze burn through my expressions. I bit my lip, suppressing embarrassment, and attempted not to shed a couple of tears like I was urged to.
''You couldn't have just ignored them?'' Carol asked, her eyebrows expressing her mood perfectly; frustration with a hint of annoyance.
''How could I? They ambushed me'' I protested, throwing my arms around. She sighed, turning her screen back in her direction so she could type something. I stood there, playing with my fingers.
It had been around two days since my last contact with Alex. His face was still accommodated inside of my mind, taking up at least 80% of my thoughts. I grimaced once I was reminded that his last movement towards me was a middle finger. Not even something like that could push him out of my brain.
''This is a huge deal, Elaine'' She said, fixing her gaze back on me.
''But I wasn't the one going out with my ex!'' I exclaimed a little louder than I wanted to. She closed her eyes, seeming to be assembling her thoughts in the right place.
''You're right. And you did handle the situation pretty well. No tears and no anger. You didn't make a scene'' She said, studying my facial expressions captured in the images.
''Alex said that nothing happened between them and he thinks that'll fix all of this'' I rolled my eyes, remembering the call from two days ago.
''It most certainly will not. I think you should remind him that he signed a contract where he agreed to feign this relationship with you. I don't remember it ever saying that it was approved for him to go out with his old girlfriends'' She shook her head in disapproval.
''Where is he now?'' She asked.
''I don't know'' I sincerely responded. She stood up from her desk, and I ceased from my seating position, grateful that this seemed to be over.
''Well, you should go looking for him'' She pointed to the door, but I hesitated. I opened my purse, looking for the small paper I had been handed last night.
''Uh, sure. But can you call this number and make an appointment for me please'' I asked, placing the card on top of her desk. She glanced at it for a moment, careless at first, but then after reading the information a smile was drawn on her face.
''Wow, John gave you his card? You're really serious about this whole modeling thing, then?'' She examined the piece of paper as I nodded my head.
''Of course'' I smiled. ''So, can you please call?'' I inquired once again, getting a response from her instantly.
